Peep sights for my AK?

Yea, I wish we could convince law27 to make a Tech Sight for the AK.

Zundfolge, that Mojo, while solidly made and a quality product, is a poor substitute.

Krebs used to sell a AR15 type rear sight, but they don't appear to anymore.

Krebs...

I just bought/received a rear peep sight from Krebs. Replaces the stock rear sight, sits in the same slot and uses the same slider for elevation changes. Windage is possible but requires Allen wrench. I bought the non-windage adjustable version. They come in 800 or 1000 meter sights and can found on the website. I'm real happy with mine.

I also replaced the front sight with an orange front sight from Tapco and am now thinking about changing it again to the crosshair front sight I found on Midway.

How do the dust cover sights hold zero with use and cleaning? Wish they made a receiver sight for the AK like that new one for the SKS. I like a long sight radius.

1. The do make such a thing for the SKS. I'll see if I can find it.

2. I have a KTR-03S. The dustcover sights hold zero perfectly during use. The problem is that they don't rezero perfectly when you remove and replace the dustcover.

I am getting ready to mess with an 03a3 rear sight, weld up a block on the rear of the dust cover, cut a male dove-tail to fit the dove tail cut in the sight and fit some lower tabs on the dust cover to drill and tap to keep the cover from walking under fire.
Hope this works better than that bull-pup nightmare ak i did last year.

Coronach, did Krebs raise the front sight to match the height of the rear? From the pics it looks like the rear arperture is sitting considerably higher than a standard AK rear sight.

Yeah, they have a completely different sight tower, mounted on the gas block.

The gun is very slick...it just won't quite rezero perfectly when you dismount/remount the dustcover. While this is a real bummer, it is also an AK... So, I'm experimenting with shooting, bore-snaking the barrel, and just leaving it dirty most times. It's not a SHTF/go-to gun, so reliability is not imperative. Hasn't jammed yet.

Oh yea, I should have noticed that. That looks like this one that ACE sells.

Just thinking... if you could get that front sight high enough, I'll bet you could use that side rail on some AKs to mount a rear peep on. That would avoid the top cover problem.

Heck, 9 out of 10 times, you could get away with flushing it out with some brake cleaner, in some CLP to prevent rust and calling it a day. That's what I do to my SKS with Tech Sights. ;)

Lots of guys never clean their AK and SKS at all. :uhoh:

I'm not a huge fan of the side mounts, for a purely subjective reason: they make the sights sit up really high. You either get jaw-weld, or you need a cheek rest. Not the end of the world, but just not the most ideal way of doing things, IMO. Other people are really not bothered by it, and it obviously works for them.

I had a OKO holosight on the side-rail of my SAR-1, took it off. I have a PK-AS on a side-rail on my Vepr. It's still on there, but I want to get a cheek piece to make it work better.

I didn't like the AK open sights on my Saiga either and made a peep sight from 1" square tubing I had a piece of the tubing welded inside the channel made from the tube for protective ears and had it welded to the top cover. I then used a small laser to mark the aperture hole using the existing sights. After shooting the Saiga with the new sights I removed the open sight. I had to trim the protective ears to clear the side mounted Russian scope. I wish the Russians would make a scope that mounts over the rifle's centerline. Russian doctrine calls for everyone to shoot right handed so they are too inflexible to design non right handed scopes.
