Pelosi Pledges Compromise on Assault Weapons Ban

Here's my compromise offer:

You repeal all 20,000 or so gun laws and replace them with one: "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

No?

OK, how about this: You repeal only 19,999 or so gun laws but replace them with this one: "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, and this applies to all residents of the United States regardless of domicile."

No?

Well, then, I'm done compromising.

After reading this I wrote to my senators and congresswoman. The two senators are in Pelosi's camp, but I want all of my representatives to know that a their vote to infringe on civil rights means a loss of my vote.

Now is the time to politely, but firmly, let those in Congress know that they will lose votes if they support any variation of an AWB. Don't hesitate or hope that someone else will do this for you.
 
Keep in mind that the last AWB showed that such a thing does not decrease crime. That's not the reason that some public officials propose them.

The purpose of an AWB is to harm their political enemies.
 
Who cares what a politician promises? The proof is in the pudding, and any veiled promise is usually a lie, and we should watch them like hawks. THEN we should offer as much resistance to ANYTHING we don't like, becuase they are going to steamroll us anyway. Sound about right?
 
I've looked and looked and looked and I just can't seem to find another occasion where you have the words Pelosi and Compromise in the same sentence......:rolleyes:

She's been replaced by a pod person I tell ya.....Princess P NEVER says she'll work to compromises....:D

On a slightly more realistic note, she is up for re-election in 2010, which in political and fund raising terms is barely around the corner. This is just the usual empty sound bite to ensure she can, on the rubber chicken circuit, say "Hey, you know I woulda done summat, it's just them buggers in Congress/Senate who wouldn't vote the right way. How many places can I put you down for?".

When you see an actual bill being mooted with actual heavy hitter co-sponsors then raise the hue and cry.

In the mean time I keep a fairly standard set of letters ready to tailor, print, hand sign and post on 2A issues which I push out on a regular basis and suggest others do as well.

General points on letters to the political caste

Keep it short, factual and to the point
Keep it grammatical
Spell check......PLEASE
Avoid writing something like FROM MY DEAD HANDS etc in phrase and capitalization
Avoid jargon, slang etc, say Second Amendment, not 2A for example
Hand signed and posted seems to bear greater weight than faxed or emailed

Remember politicians are interested in 3 things only

1. Gaining power and authority over others
2. Enjoying the privileges of power and authority
3. Staying in power and authority over others

Reminding them via communication that (politically) they too are mere mortals who Joe Shmo can vote out works surprisingly well in keeping them in bounds.

Flood her office with phone calls that we will not accept any form of gun control or registration...period

But...but...but....

....I thought a bunch of guys here recently reassured us that Congress and the Obama Regiem had no interest in any kind of gun ban.

I am very aware of your support of the 2nd Amendment of our Constitution and I appreciate you signing the letter to our AG in regards to his statements on implementing draconian laws going completely against our constitution and recent supreme court rulings.

However, I need your help with addressing Speaker of the House Pelosi. She went and did an interview with Good Morning America and stated that she is in favor, now (after switching her mind not even a month ago and blasting Eric Holder) of implementing a new 'Assault Weapons' ban which goes against this past summer's DC v. Heller supreme court ruling. The supreme court upheld that a firearm in common usage cannot be banned by any means because it is an obvious choice by the populace for lawful uses.

Many gun owners use these so-called 'assault weapons' in many forms of lawful use but most importantly they are incredibly popular for self-defense. If you need to verify that, you can consult any local gun store or ask any of your constituents. I urge you to either draft another public letter with your fellow Pro Second Amendment congressmen or do everything in your power to not let another ban happen. Check FBI records if you have to, but the 1994 AWB did nothing towards the reduction in crime and another one will not help.

The solution to the recent high-profile murders and killing sprees (not the simple 'shootings' that our great mass media loves to say) is to have armed citizens (the true first responders due to them being at the scene) trained and ready to confront such acts with equal force, not reduce the law-abiding's ability to do such a thing.

No, the compromise is that the government rounds up and exterminates only people who own guns; their families and relatives will be spared for now.

All in the name of saving lives, of course.

This is the text of an email I sent an informal group that I update on Second Amendment issues:

I tried to call her number to leave a message but a recording advised that her mailbox is full. I rather suspect that it is as her phone number has been listed on the Internet on several Pro-Freedom sites in conjunction with her call for “gun registration.”

I will again tomorrow.

I encourage all of us to do so and to get like-minded people to do the same.

Be courteous but to the point and be firm. Let her know that we will make our displeasure felt at the voting booth for sure to those of her party who supported gun control and that it would probably wind up hurting “conservative” Democrats, too.

I am completely and absolutely opposed to any and all so-called attempts at more “gun control”. This includes your call for gun registration. Registration is nothing more than the precursor to confiscation…or the attempt at it, and we both know that’s your ultimate aim.

Rest assured that any further attempts at gutting the Second Amendment by you or members of your party will result in my working against you to the maximum and doing all that I legally can to see you and other supporters of gun control/registration defeated. I believe that thousands upon thousands of other Americans will be doing the same thing.

I hope that each of you will do your part in this fight. If we don’t, regardless of Heller and regardless of the Constitution, the anti-freedom gun-grabbers will find some damned way to finish off the Second Amendment.

Again, despite your disgust with these politicians, be polite. Don’t let your temper make you lose control or say something you might regret. Trust me, I have to work at it, too, but it can be done.

In short, it’s going to take us all to prevail.

I always felt that she was misnamed. Instead of Nancy Pelois her name should be Nazi Pelosi. She would love to be Queen Pelosi.

Pelosi is a liar. Reid is a liar. Obama is a liar. They are all liars and have always been liars.

They will give you nothing and take everything. Their 'compromise' is today. Tommorow, after YOU have compromised they will demand more. They will give you nothing and take everything, piece by piece.

Do not trust them for their whole profession is one of lying.
 
she doesn't have a leg to stand on right now. there are a big number of dems in the senate that will not vote for a ban and have told her that. none of the repubs will right now and they don't have the support that they need from the other side. RG
 
I keep hearing about 52 victims of gun violence and that is a shame to say the least. But I would love a figure on how many lives were saved by a gun last month. I Know of one and I am sure there are far more than 52. Not to belittle there loss as tragic as it is. Just a thought,,,,,
 
This is a priming effect. What is happening via mass media by way of political press releases is bringing an issue to the forefront of a person(s) mind.

Ever hear a strange word in conversation, and find yourself using it later that day? thats a priming effect. Priming is often mixed with agenda setting (controlling what information is presented) and framing (how a message is tailored)

when these factors combine you can shift opinion on an issue in a given group a varying amount, depending on which types of information you specifically tailor.

lets see what happens in another few months. I bet the frequency of these style of messages will increase, and slowly you will see more forceful language incorporated into the messages.

I know this sounds basic, but their are entire bodies of scholarly research dedicated to making these effects work.
 
That ain't what she said tonight on 60 minutes...

She admitted that as soon as the time is right they will push every bit of anti gun legislation they can get away with!!!!:cuss::fire:
 
Feinstein said on the 60 minutes piece tonight that she understood this was not a good time to push gun legislation...

...but confirmed they will move on it when the time IS right.
