Perfecta ammunition issues

FWIW, I've gone through ~500-600 rounds of 115 gr 9mm Perfecta in a G19 without a problem.

I put 50 rounds through a G19 not long ago. I shot it back to back with WWB 115gr. The perfecta felt and sounded hotter, had noticeably more muzzle flash (more than any other 9mm ammo I remember), and was dirty/smoky, but not more so than a few others.

WM brand Perfecta 170gr would not run in a friends CZ P07 Duty 40. Jammed repeatedly with a few different shooters. Tried a few other brands, even 180gr steel Wolf, and it ran perfectly.

I put 4 boxes of Perfecta 115 gr through my Taurus PT111 G2 and my "Mossad" Tanfoglio 9mm with zero issues. I have some in .45, and it looks good, a lot better than the Speer Lawman I recently picked up. The Speer stuff has odd spots on it, like it got wet with something when it was made. The 115 gr 9mm Speer looked the same. It shot fine, so I can't complain too much. The Perfecta was a little bit dirty compared to the Speer though, but not nearly as bad as some of the stuff I've had over the years.

Except for my STI Trojan 9mm 1911, all of my nines shoot the 9mm Perfecta fine. The Trojan doesn't reliably cycle a lot of 115 gr. ammo but that's "NBD". My Gen4 Glock 21 shoots all the .45ACP loads including the Perfecta very nicely.

Well, I use Perfecta 9mm and .223. My Canik TP9SA loves it never an issue in 550 rounds. My Anderson .223 also loves it no issues in over 700 rounds. They like it so much I've stocked 1200 rounds of 9mm and 1450 of .223. I can't beat the price for brass. And it burns clean for me. Sorry others are having issues, but as always, some guns like certain ammo.

I've shot .223 55 gr. FMJ Perfecta from my Axis and my son's DPMS Sportical. No issues. I've shot the 9mm 115 FMJ Perfecta from several guns (G17, Sig P226, BHP, 9mm Commander and a Tanfoglio CZ-75 copy) no issues.

Interesting. I've run thousands of rounds of Perfecta in 9mm, .45, .357, .223 and .308 with nary a problem in any firearm. I believe it to be at least as good as other "value pack" type ammo, prefer it to Federal bulk pack 9mm.

I'm becoming a fan of Perfecta. Inexpensive, and no failures whatsoever in any caliber I've shot: 9mm, .45 ACP, .223. I've also gone through several hundred rounds of the brand. No issues, and certainly, acceptable accuracy.

I've never fired any perfecta..... Didn't even know it existed until my boss brought me in a bunch of 223 brass.
Good stuff! Seems to be well made and very consistent. Just sayin

I shoot handloads almost exclusively. But last year Wally Wold had Perfecta 230 grain 45s for about $15 a box so I got a box figuring the cases were brass anyway.

Out of curiosity, I ran the 50 rounds through my Dillon case gage just to check them. To my surprise, several of them would not seat in the case gage. I then ran those through a Lee FCD to get them to seat flush.

Can't speak to anymore than this one box. But, in my experience, this one box contained several rounds that were not so "perfecta".

Before I started reloading 9mm I used to shoot a ton of Perfecta. Easily 1000+ rounds of it. Personally I think everyone should shoot the heavier stuff in 9mm. 124/147gr malfunctions a lot less than 115 and 115 is hands down the least accurate weight in 9mm, which is why I don't like 115 in general but Perfectas regular price of $9 per box around my way is better than anything else so I have shot a good bit over the years. It wasn't the cleanest ammo but it always went bang. I have shot a little bit of their .40 but accuracy was indeed terrible with that load.
The culprit to the Perfecta ammo issues people are having is almost with out a doubt caused by misshaped projectiles. I did some measuring on some Perfecta 9 I have in my stash and the bullets are all over the place in size. This means that some, the smaller ones, will zip past the rifling of the barrel with hardly any pressure causing huge flame but little felt recoil. This will also cause feeding issues. The ones that are oversized/too large are what will swage off pieces of jacket and blast back in the face as well as create loud reports. The powder in these loads is not rifle powder as some have said, believe me you would be having much different problems if that were the case lol. In any even, I always encourage people to try various types of ammo but it's hard because some people just don't shoot much. Reading this thread I see people say oh I've shot 100 rounds of this brand, 50 rounds of that brand etc. I shoot minimum 800-1000 rounds per month, every month. So going through and testing 300-500 rounds of a certain load for me is no problem at all. For those that don't shoot much though and just want good reliable loads, stick with major manufacturers and buy in bulk to save your $ as opposed to buying cheaper products. If you like Federal but it's $14 a box vs $10 for Tula, don't buy it by the box, buy it by the case so the Federal becomes the same price as Tula. Get what I'm saying? Not only do major companies have a better product by and large, they also offer much better customer support in the event you do have a problem. Or just do what I do any reload/handload. Then you can't blame anyone for crappy annoying batches except yourself lol.

The only bad failure I have had in .40 was a reloaded Perfecta case. No more for me. Sounds like the factory ammo isn't so good either.

Never experienced any accuracy issues at all with Perfecta. It always goes where I point it. Decent, repeatable, always under 2" groupings. Pistol or SBR.

Why don't you guys reload Perfecta brass? I've seen lots of variations in the projectiles used in their factory ammo but haven't ever seen any issues with their brass. Only speaking for 9mm, and rifle cases though. I've never loaded their 40.

Just not equipped for it yet. I do have BAGS of their brass though. My son and his friends dont reload either, so they save me all of theirs too. It may soon be worth the investment, to start.

This thread has been an interesting read. I never shot Perfecta. Don't know much about. There are so many other choices readily available and I rarely see it on the shelves.

There are those, such as I, that check the shelves at Wal-Mart alot. Leading to its "rarity". I really wish Wal-Mart handled Perfecta in .25 acp. Or even if they make it. It just seems ridiculous that such a tiny round should cost 2 1/2 times as much as 9mm, almost double that of .223. Cabellas is my only "out", but it is cheap dirty ammo. Perfecta all the way, for my money. Go Wally-World.

I've shot perfecta in 9/40/45 and the only one to give me problems was the 45 acp. The 45 perfecta choked a couple of my guns up as well as a couple of my friends various 45's. I haven't shot any since so I don't know if it was just a bad lot of ammo or that's how it's made. Maybe I'll buy some more one day, if it is bad at least I can work on malfunction drills hehehe

Strange, because I shot a case of Perfecta .45 ACP over the past couple of months through several .45s, including a SIG P-220, SIG P-227, FNX-45, SA TRP, Colt Series 70, Colt LW Commander and an Ed Brown ... 500 rounds, ZERO failures or malfunctions.

Yeah, I normally get mine at Wal-Mart too, but a couple of the online ammo sellers have had killer deals lately ...

I had good luck with it except for one box of 9mm. I believe I started a thread about it here a few months ago. I got a few rounds where the muzzle blast was really loud and recoil felt higher. I have bought more since with no issues, including the 223 Walmort sells in boxes of 50 for around $15

I doubt judging an entire brand of ammunition over one experience is rational. No ruptured brass was found? You may have experienced a "Stall". A stall can occur in the timing of a semi auto pistol. The stall can allow the gun to fire with out the slide being in full battery. This can result in some blow back of residue and noise.:(
