Philippine M1911s

Some buddies and I ran a couple of Fillipino 1911s...thinking RIA and Metro...through a Gunsite 250 pistol course a while back; about 2k rounds through each in a week.

We were running McComick PowerMags and Wilson ETM during the class and had no issues at all

I just found out Rock Island/Armscor is coming out with a mini-1911 in .380 soon! God help me..... I also want one of their 10mm's.

My wife and I both shoot Metro American Classic II's

both have well over 1K rds through them and while there have been a few issues, all were early in each guns break-in and even considering those issues*, I've had less trouble out of these guns combined, than many other 1911 owners I've met have with "big name" makers.

*the issues: neither will feed factory ammo w/ Hornady HAP bullets, and mine seems to have been built on a Friday because it came with the wrong (commander length) recoil spring, the extractor clocked, and the bushing/barrel fit is looser than i'd like.

I have two RIA's. A full size Tactical and a full size Match. Both in .45ACP. The Match has never been touched. I changed out the stocks for a set of VZ and added grip tape to the front strap. I used it for two years in IDPA. The Tactical has been cerakoted and had a few things polished by my gunsmith. Never a hiccup. Early Armscor 1911A1's had issues. Newer production is much better.

thanks bikerdoc, good to know. He's been running the OEM Filipino mags it came with no prob, but the cheap GI surplus or no-name "gun show specials" are what keeps choking his RIA. I'll let him try some of my premo stuff to see if it sorts it out. :)

Btw, the "factory" mags for the fillipino guns (Armscor and Metro in particular) tend to be ACT mags. and most of the "surplus" mags found at gun shows, esp those still in a wrapper, are Chinese counterfeits...

so yeah tell your buddy to start buying decent magazines, McCormicks work realy well in my two, and tend to be less that $20 a piece

How do these Filipino pistols handle a variety of magazines? I own nothing but Colt's and one Kimber and use Colt & Kimber factory mags, but also run Chip McCormick's with great success... not trying to threadcrap here, just truly interested. My buddy's RIA has issues w/ MOST aftermarket magazines.
Mine is 100% with the OEM magazines... IF you load them to one less than capacity. Otherwise, you can't even chamber a round with them.

I started researching the issue on M1911 specific forums, and discovered that McCormick magazines are highly recommend. I've bought four of them, and indeed I can load them to capacity and have them feed properly. I bought my second two at a gunshow last weekend.

My .45acp Citadel CS 3.5 and the (not yet dyed) holster I made for it:

Nice looking holster to go with your Citadel CS 3.5. The design of your holster kind of reminds me of a DeSantis SOF-TUCK. Very comfortable to wear and does a great job of concealment.

Thanks.

I'm a member on leatherworker.net, and that method of attaching the clip/hook is disfavored because it tends to rotate. I thought I was going to be able to stake the rivet tightly enough to inhibit that, but that wasn't the case. After trying a number of fixes, I found that stick on velcro on the holster and clip worked quite well. It keeps it stable while putting it on, but allows a certain amount of movement while being worn. I'm still thinking about a magazine pouch to go with it.

Thanks for the heads up about the clip. Don't know how secure the whole set-up is though they do include an Allen wrench in case you want to adjust the cant of the holster for strong side, crossdraw, or small of back use. Still super tight, I will be checking it before I use it from now on.

I used a rivet. Next time I'd use a nut and bolt, but I'm not sure what kind or where I'd get it. Some people modify the nuts with the prongs on them.

Very happy with my Citadel .45 full size 1911. Probably 5000 rounds now with no issues. Feeds SWC reloads fine and is not super picky about the OAL on them.
Feeds fine with all the mags I have used including some cheap no name "goverment" 1911 mags.

I have a RIA 45 fullsize GI. It shoots as well as my Kimber at 3 times the price of the RIA.

I must have had an early one, never did work right even after going back to the factory several time. They finally gave up and sent me a new one, which I sold.
