Again thanks for the nice comments, I feel like i did some miracle and turned a frog into a prince of something. I cant take all the credit as Mac the refinisher is who made my work look good.

orionengnr- I had a spare Harrison Design trigger for it in IonBlack but that was put in my new RIA CS Officer before this gun made it back home.
I have a couple sets of grips for the gun also, This was just a new set i picked up off Ebay for $15 shipped.
The ammo is an oddball, Its Speer Lawman 200gr +P flat nose FMJ used for LEO training. I buy a lot of my ammo on-line and gives me a chance to try out a lot more threw my guns. Plus this would be a nice hot load for woods carry.

jpatterson- Mac's prices are listed in his link in the first post, But i sent him extra as i had him do 2 recoil spring plugs so i have a FLGR system and a GI system which i prefer and whats shown in the pics as it has the ability to be beveled unlike the FLGR plug that is sheet metal like with a hole in the end.
But i spent $155 + my shipping to him, He paid return shipping.
But his normal cost is less than that for a 1911.

98f150- If your post is the one i imagine it was it was pretty rude, And the mods must have thought so also as well as other members. I didn't report it so someone else did or a mod found it and also edited any trace of it out of the thread. I thank you for the apology, And maybe a little more tactful ways of expressing your feelings could be done more nicely but still get the same point across, I know i have to do it some times myself when i read about people using .22lr for SD.

G27RR- You hit the nail on the head, I in all honesty wouldn't trade this gun for a new Wilson Combat even tho i know it would be mostly superior in most ways.
Im good at hand fitting parts now, But i would be mistaken to say i could do it better than their smiths. And the frame and slide they start with should be better quality also.
But my gun is "MY GUN" built mostly by me, And that is priceless and impossible to replace since i have parts in it with sentimental value attached too.

MidwestRookie- I think i know the gun your talking about which is a very sweet gun. I know id like to compare them side by side and shoot them side by side so i could see how mine compares to "Real" customs done my Excellent gunsmiths which im just a hobbyist tinkerer.
But id say the Thunder Ranch is still an easy $1000 more than what i have invested in the gun and parts and refinish, But mine includes no labor.
If my labor had value it would cost about the same.
Im afraid to sit down and add all the receipts but id guess with the cost of the gun and all the parts and refinish i have close too $1700 with no labor.

This took me several months just to get all the parts as im on a low income fixed budget so this was my way to work myself into a semi custom which im most cases i could never afford.

Jamie B- The grips were a low bid snipe from ebay for $15 shipped but were really thick, I had to sand at least 1/3 of the thickness away from the bottom.
But they really are comfortable and look good on the gun imo.
I also have a set of Bocote wood grips for the gun also.

If i didn't address your post directly its due to no questions being asked, But i really appreciate all the great comments.
I can say i don't think ill be doing this ever again unless i start with a Fusion type frame and slide kit so the value of the gun stays what ive invested.
But this gun was done for sentimental value and is priceless even tho its worth $350 trade in at a gun shop. The pride i feel when i hold, shoot and carry it cant be replaced with a $3000 custom.
And trust me id love a $3k custom.

I mentioned before i just took the gun for its first outing for testing 2 days ago and was suffering from extractor issues being too tight and the finish taking up enough room that it threw off the extractors fine tuned fit which always served me well prior.
With sandpaper i cleaned out the claw area and rounded any sharp edges on the bottom and slightly moved the extractor forward a minute amount and it now hand cycles live rounds in slow motion, So i know it have its only issue corrected.
Next its off to the indoor range again for more reliability testing.
This isnt break-in type testing, Its fine tuning testing to make all those new parts that are so tight and even tighter with the finish on them work well together again.

Sorry for the long post, But i believe if a person takes the time to give a comment or question ill do my best to answer it as i love talking about the gun anyhow.

:what: Some guys have all the luck..........!

Amazing transformation. You should be proud--not just for the work, but for the creativity behind it.

Since you clearly cannot leave well enough alone, my next question is...when do you start the RIA CS project??? ;)

Once again, good work!

I will admit i did stop the gun short of its final modification as money was running low and i wanted it finished. That was to be a Bobtail job which i do regret not doing.
But after some thought i came to the conclusion it would be more for looks than function.
But the uniqueness would have been cool.

I only changed 2 parts on the RIA but both were for function.
The stock trigger was serrated and each section was higher than the next leading to a point in the middle, It felt like having a butter knife for a trigger.
Thats why my Harrison Design IonBond trigger is now in that gun with a trigger job on the stock parts.
Secondly i added an EGW flat bottom firing pin stop as on its first range trip i had the stock one fall half way out almost sending my firing pin across the indoor ranges floor.
I love their FP stops when you add just a slight angle to them as they increase lock time and soften recoil.
But thats all the RIA will get, Ill buy a Wilson Combat the next time i feel like spending a ton of money.
