Pick 3 for CCW permit

Marv, it's illegal to ccw a gun that is not listed on the permit, here in Ca.

I'm surprised Kern County limits you to three. Here in Kings County we can have as many handguns as we can fit on our card. Also, our sheriff got rid of the rice paper and went with a card that is as durable as a drivers license.

I'd pick the G-21 and 1911 and the snub nose revolver.

Neither the Airweight nor the LC9 are range toys, so if they're not on your CCW license, what's the point of having them at all?

Agreed - I consigned the LC9 Saturday, and within an hour it was sold. It was the only handgun I own that I truly disliked.

The wife may decide to get a permit, and shoots the Airweight well.

OK then, now you are down to owning:
Glock 30, 26, 36, 21
S&W 38 Airweight snubbie
Colt 1911 Govt stainless

My original suggestion of listing the Glock 21 and Glock 30 along with the S&W J frame holds.

The J frame is self explanatory and I picked the G21 and G30 because they make a good companion set, the full size 21 and the smaller and more concealable G30 as a BUG. You can also use the 13 round G21 mags in the 30 which is a plus. I would have considered the G36 but I don't know how shootable a slimline .45 Auto is.

BUT, if it were me I would be choosing all revolvers or if I had to pick semi-autos they would be SIG pistols. (like the P229 and P224 combination)

I have expanded my inventory of handguns suitable for CCW over the last couple of years. I must list CCW guns on my permit, and am limited to three, so today's game is Pick Three....

Glock 30, 26, 36, 21
Ruger LC9
S&W 38 Airweight snubbie
Colt 1911 Govt stainless

I'm XXL-sized (6'3, 275) so a tiny gun is not needed for concealment. I'm leaning toward an all-Glock setup (30,26,36) for a single manual of arms. Am I missing something?
The best choice of those listed would be G30 the worst 1911.

The only one I'd rule out (despite your attachment) is the 1911. Completely different manual of arms compared to the others, and in a high-stress situation, it's easy to confuse them and maybe forget to swipe off or engage the safety (despite training). It's sort of like if you own more than one car, and they're different models -- no matter how often you drive each, it's easy to forget which car you're driving and confuse the windshield wiper controls, headlight switch, etc.

Folks, he's in CA. He can't have mags that hold more than 10 rounds.

I think I agree with ArchAngleCD. To my mind, if you can only carry three guns you want them to fill three roles. I would say; full-size service pistol, compact pistol, pocket pistol. The Glock 21 fills the first role, the Glock 36/30/26 fill the second and the J-Frame fills the third. Personally, I would probably rather have a small single-stack 9mm like the Kahr CM9 or the S&W M&P 9c but that's just personal choice and if you are limited to what you have, the S&W 38 should work fine.

My pecking order: Glock-36-My EDC 45acp and lightweight.
J-Frame- For running quick errands just slip in my pocket.
Glock-30- Almost as good as the G-36 for carry and a few more rounds.

The M&P 9c is not a single stack. The Shield is, but is not yet CA approved.

Well, I appreciate the input you all have given - even those of you who suggested I buy three new guns (Honey, that's what they told me I needed...). :D I've observed a couple of trends:
1) The 1911 still has a loyal following.
2) The Airweight is so popular, it may well be worth more on the used market than it is to me. I like it, but I don't shoot it as well as other choices. I'll probably keep it, as I end up letting others try it out.
3) My thinking isn't too far out in left field on the G30/36/26 choice.

I confirmed today that I can only list three. I'm goint to leave the G21 set up as a range gun, and carry the 30, 26, and/or 36. Having three of the five I shoot best, all with the same manual of arms, makes great sense to me. Gotta send my 30 in for GNS...

Permits are non-specific in Tennessee. If you have a Handgun Carry Permit (HCP) you can carry any handgun. You can also keep an AK-47 in your car with a full magazine in it as long as you don't have one in the chamber. You can have one in the chamber if you are in "imminent danger".

Sorry, I don't mean to rub it in, but I sure am happy about it!

LC9, J frame, & ?

Jim
