Got my 2nd PS90 in last week... And my side rails came in today...

Here is a picture... best I can do until I have time 1 day to take a nicer pic in the sun outside....

I'm leaving the stock optic on this one, as I want a battery free version. I love my eotech and the stuff attached to my 1st one - but it's also nice to have a low profile one as well.

I just need to get a sling for the 2nd one now...

very nice. I got to shoot one of these a few months back, awesome little rifles. Eotech is definately a great addition, but leaving one factory is great too. and with two, why not?

Why are the barrels so long?

To make a civilian friendly version - it has to have a 16" barrel instead of a 10" barrel.

I've had the first one for 4 years now - you get used to it. and even with the 16" barrel, the whole thing is just 26" long in total. It's short than a short barrelled Ar15.

You also pick up about 200 extra FPS with the longer barrel.

My Uzi felt like a new gun after I got it SBRed. I would not have thought that losing 6" of barrel would make it feel so different, but it did.

I'm willing to live with a minor loss in FPS to gain a lot of handiness. BSW

Well, 2 years or so ago, I actually had a SBR receiver on order from CMMG. They messed up for some weird reason and sent off their expired FFL info to the ATF. They wasted 3 months of my time, and I got fed up with their games and cancelled the order.

Now, I'm fine with the way things are. I don't feel like paying the $200 fee and the cost for the conversion, plus there are some strings attached to the gun after that.

I'm happy with the way the guns are - even unmodified, the whole package is shorter than a SBR AR15.

I've got 500 rounds of 5.7x28 (sold my fiveseven) and I have been trying like hell to give myself a reason to buy one of these. Other than pure fun, it wouldn't serve much of a purpose for me.

Shipwreck, what purpose do these serve for you (other than fun or collection!)? I'm just curious because I really want one, but for the price it HAS to have a purpose. I know my wife would like it, but she has a CX4 Storm already :)

One can argue caliber wars all day long, so some may not agree with me (others do). But, mine is my SHTF rifle. 50 rounds (100 on that one with the mag clamp - in the photo above) in a small, light weapon. No real recoil and no muzzleflash when fired from the carbine.

I also like the ergonomics of the weapon. I had an MSAR, but sold it to buy this 2nd PS90 (I still need to get a sling for the 2nd one). And, the PS90 is like 1010% reliable. I can count on 1 hand the number of reliability problems I've seen posted across all the gun forums I am on. The most recent I read was about 3 weeks ago - and that person was using reloads and was getting buildup of some sort of chemical he was putting on the brass. WIth factory ammo only, this would be a non issue.

I personally like the 197 ammo. The range is about 25 or so meters shorter, but the wound channels I have seen thru tests posted by people on various forums have been very interesting.

Also, in an indoor environment, the round breaks up on hard targets - so a lot less interior overpenetration issues to worry about.

Mine has also been flawless. I have no problem with the longer barrel of the civilian version, and if I did I wouldn't hesitate to SBR it, but I don't so I won't. Mine is the railed version and I almost wish I would have opted for the factory optics, but I did hear complaints about them, or the earlier version which was available when I bought mine. The rifle offers a lot of firepower that can be accurately and quickly placed at any ranges that I would be shooting at. Without getting into "caliber wars", I would not feel under-gunned with mine.

According to my traditional mindedness, I'm not supposed to like them.....but I do. I think they're cool, handy and interesting, that the 50rd magazine design is brilliant and that the 5.7 would make a dandy 200yd varmint cartridge. In short, I want one!

Yes, the original white ringed sight sucked - I got to shoot two PS90s before I got mine, and I knew right away that I was going to put the eotech on it. I never even fired mine with the stock optic. I obtained all the rails and such before I even got the gun.

The black ringed sight is much better.

The two guns actually feel like 2 different guns - as they are setup different... It's not like I feel like I have 2 identical guns. The slimness of the factory optic with nothing mounted on the sides really makes the gun feel smaller. Still, if the SHTF, I'd grab the one with my EOtech, as it also has a unimax laser mounted in front of it, and I have a 300 lumen Eagletac LED on the side rail.

Does the second mag on top act as a cheek weld for the EoTech as welll? I like that setup alot, might have to convice the mrs :)

Yes, it does.

I am actually right handed, but left eye dominant - so I liked that I could actually use either eye in my eotech.

However, I finally trained myself to only use the right eye when I had my MSAR. So, now I am used to only using the proper eye. With the double mag clamp, the cheek weld is perfect with the eotech.

I've had mag clamps in the past, and I never liked it because it took away that ability to use the left eye. But now, I'm fine with it and like it. The only negative is the extra weight of the 2nd mag - which isn't really a big deal.

I used to think, as many others still do, that this was a caliber looking for a purpose other than plinking. And while it actually does make a very good low recoil plinker, it's also pretty good for small game and varmints at reasonable ranges, and I would not feel undergunned useing it for a HD weapon. I actually did not get a PS90 but got an AR57 upper since I have plenty of lowers.

I love my PS90 even with the longer barrel it's fun as heck to shoot and still feels incredibly compact. Mine has the factory optic with the newer style black reticle sight that turn red in the dark and I also plan to keep it that way. I know people complain a lot about the older style reticle sight with the white circle and I'm glad mine doesn't have that.

I've always been a huge fan of the Stargate tv series, both SG1 and Atlantis and I have to admit that was my main inspiration for buying a PS90.:D

Here's mine.....

I was witness to a jackrabbit being taken with a PS90 at what was a measured 178 yards.

If I had two PS90s I'd SBR one but I doubt I will with just one. It is not really worth the effort and expense IMO.

Yes, thats how was the reason I was FORCED to buy the 1st one... It was outta my hands... I had no control after seeing the P90 on the show week after week...

Yep its the Stargate gun, that's why I'll probably buy one someday as well. Even though FN reams you up the a$$ for the ammo.

Talk about product placement working!:D

Actually - if you hit an internet sale - its not really any more than decent 223 ammo. All the other ammo has gone up, but the FN ammo has really only gone up a little bit. It's expensive here in my local town - but if I want more than 2 boxes at 1 time, I buy it online.

It's really only gone up a couple of dollars a box if you hit a sale.

Not really. When you consider the quality of the ammo it is on par with other calibers. The thing is there is just no cheap plinking ammo for it.

Exactly!

I've been saying this same thing for a long time and a lot of people just don't seem to get it.

You can find Hornady V-Max 5.7x28 online for about $18-$20 per box of 50.

The equivalent Hornady V-Max sells for about $15-$17 per box of 20.

You do the math......

As Girodin pointed out as well the problem with 5.7x28 as opposed to .223 or 7.62x39 is that there is no cheap stuff available, it's pretty much Hornady V-Max or nothing.

So really a gun chambered in 5.7x28 is relatively inexpensive to shoot if you choose to only shoot quality ammo most of the time. Also consider that these days a 50 round box of almost any brand of .45acp is going to run you around $20 or more.
