Ok - FINALLY am all set to go shoot it - Got an Aimpoint T1 Micro today.

This is actually the 3rd time I have owned a PS90.... Yes, I am an idiot. My first one had an Eotech - but the optic sits too high on a PS90 IMHO. My 2nd one had the factory black ring sight - but the glass is too damn small on that factory optic. That part always bugged me. This time, I think the Aimpoint goes perfect.

I brought the PS90 to the gun store with me, and I tried the Aimpoint and the Trijicon MRO. I thought I would prefer the larger glass size, since I like the Mepro 21 so much. But when trying both - I thought that I actually preferred the smaller tube on this gun. The aimpoint also is lower overall, isnce the glass is smaller...

It is true that I usually get a Mepro 21 on my rifles - but I needed something that sits lower. And, while the dot isn't always a "dot" to my eyes - even when slightly distorted, it's not that bad. This will be a home defense carbine. At inside distances - the dot is fine.

I hope to zero it this weekend...

I put off buying another PS90 for a while, because the price of accessories kill me. WIth the extended charging handles, all the rails, the sling, the mags, extra ammo, etc... But, I missed my last one too much!

I've been wanting one of these to do an SBR on for a long time now. But when you add the cost of the rifle, the cost to have the SBR done, and the cost of the tax stamp, it's just more money than I can let go of.

But I still lust for one every time I see one in SBR. And it makes me want one even more because I already have a 22 suppressor rated for 5.7. :banghead:

Yes, I haven't wanted to short barrel it for all the strings attached, AND the cost... I agree. But, they sure do look cool that way.

You need to add the EFFEN90 receiver;

Perfect height/length for a full-size EoTech, which is an awesome optic on such a handy rifle. Although I am seriously considering one of the new Holosun jobs that turns on when jostled, since my FN does nightstand guard duty. The anvil rail arrangement also makes loading a lot less awkward, eliminating all the 'insertion' maneuvers needed to get the mag under the sight base. I really do not know why FNH has not transitioned to this type of setup, or at least a modular/removable sight tower (granted, I doubt they've spent a single penny developing this product line since 2000 or so)

I thought the same until I found the receiver above. The receiver was about 300$, the stamp 200$, and a spare barrel also 200$ if you buy one pre-made (I'll be turning a blank), so you can basically get a second SBR 'upper' put together for five to seven bills, which really isn't that bad. Mighty convenient too, since they are so easily swapped out, and you don't have to deal with cutting down a PS90 barrel which is apparently a royal PITA. I'd also hate to chop on the extremely nice PS90 barrel, which is a lot of fun to plink steel 200yds away with (I'm sure the factory P90 barrels do that, too, but I won't count on my personal handiwork measuring up ;))

PS- the left side view and FDE color scheme really make this look like a Kel Tec product :D

I've seen that receiver - I ran the FN Forum back in 06 or 07 for a while. I remember when that was designed. It hasn't really sold that well, from what I can tell. I am surprised they are still available, as many PS90 accessories are no longer around.

I always thought that this receiver looks kinda ugly. Not really interested. But you are right - a 2nd receiver with the SBR (if ya wanna do that) is the way to go. I actually paid for one with CMMG back in 08 or so, but they messed up the order by submitting their expired FFL #with my stuff. It had to be resubmitted, and I ended up just cancelling it after waiting 3+ months for nothing.

Now, I'm fine with the regular barrel. You get something like 200ft/s more with the longer barrel anyway

Yeah, the design's been passed around to a few companies since Thompson debuted it, the current guy has them on Gunbroker (has a tri-rail version, too). The looks have improved a bit since the photo I posted (the Thompson Machine version), it looks much more 'anvil-ey' now. Not that it really matters frankly, since so little of it is visible when an optic is affixed (and it's not like the original casting looked all that great either, even if it did have an attractive silhouette). I mainly like that it drops the ridiculous optic rail height down by ditching those silly little backup sights, and loses a full pound off the original weight

I still need to pick up one of the eBay brass catchers (that's actually large enough for fifty rounds ) and my rig will be complete for the time being. Even the stock PS90 is wonderfully balanced for various shooting positions (squat shooting is awesome since it doesn't have enough oomph to push you over even on rapid fire) but I have to assume the SBR is more better-er since FN intended it that way :p

Nice rifle! I would love to pic one up. Like you, I see some artifacts on the dot of a RDS but it doesn't hinder my ability to shoot with one.

A potential word of caution, barnbwt- I have a HOLOSUN RDS with the auto-wake feature and my experience hasn't been totally positive. It worked like a charm for six months; the slightest movement would turn it on. Then around the six month mark it got flaky, sometimes you had to shake it vigorously. After a couple days like that the motion sensor died altogether. The sight still works but you need to physically hit a button to make it turn on. Like you, I had intended to use it for my home defense carbine but obviously it's not ideal for that any more. I don't know if my experience is typical or not but I will stick to sights that are always-on from now.

Two things come to mind...

1) Nice PS90, especially the way you have it done up.

and

2) Do your Berettas know about this?

Oh, hell yeah :D

Actually, over the past week, I have been re-watching my SG Atlantis blue ray discs :D

How did ya know :D

Ok, I just got back from shooting it. I shot 200 Rounds thru it... 150 Rounds of 198, and 50 Rounds of 197. I zeroed the gun using 198.

Now, 197 hits 1 inch low and 1/2 an inch to the right using the 198 zero. The 197 is slower, though. And the weapon does require a change in zero depending on the round you choose.

Anyway, I can put all rounds in to a 1 inch square easily. As discussed on another thread I started on the FN Forum - I did the 25 yard zero instead of a 50 yard zero. It shoots about 2 inches low at 7 yards with a 25 yard zero. A 50 yard zero would be lower than that at inside distances (3.5-4 inches low with this caliber - and the height of the optic over the bore). As this is replacing a handgun for home defense usage, I thought it would be better to use a closer zero. I have a SCAR 16 if I need to shoot further distances. And, there are no 50 yard ranges in my area anymore. I'm stuck with 25 or 100 yards, unless I drive an hour away to shoot with a friend. Since I'm going to be taking my son out more to shoot his 22 at 25 yards, it also made sense to do this, since that is all the local ranges have.

Now, it is cleaned and loaded with 198 rounds. All set for home defense.

Only negative, after 200 Rounds, that damn Fenix flashlight that I bought for this gun doesn't work. It only works in strobe, and it is not the batteries. I will be returning it at Academy today. I put a TRL1 onto the PS90 for now. It is made to handle recoil. Anyway, less impressed on Fenix lights now.

I've spent enough as it is. WIth the optic, rails, extended charging handles, etc. It's already worth over $2300. No thanks on any more $$ :D

I just haven't warmed up to the oddly shaped design. The gun is seriously cool looking at the stats, but the sci-fi look and the cost push me away. The SBR version is intriguing though...it's prohibitively expensive, but intriguing nonetheless.

Stargate Atlantis was the first place I took notice of the PS90.

Film armorers love them because they eject empties straight down.

A few years ago I rented a full auto version and 200 rounds of ammo on my birthday,,,
Possibly one of the most enjoyable (read thrilling) hours of my life.

If I could only have one rifle but it could be anything,,,
I would definitely consider that wild thing.

30 or 50 rounds of a screaming hot cartridge,,,
That's one heckuva personal defense weapon.

You are now ready,,,
To hunt some Wraith.

Such creatures do not flee from man's weapons, but from the Word. :)

Nice rifle OP, it would be a good candidate for the CQBL laser if you got into night shooting

Aw, c'mon man, how am I going to live vicariously through your PS90 if you don't get it SBR'ed! You owe it to all the fans of SG1!

I took this to the range again today... Put 110 more rounds thru it. I let my son shoot 10 rounds. He had a little trouble pulling the heavier trigger because of his age, but he enjoyed it. He then proceeded to put 150 Rounds of 22 thru his M&P 15-22 carbine.

Barnbwt you mentioned:
The receiver was about 300$, the stamp 200$, and a spare barrel also 200$ if you buy one pre-made
Do you have info from where? I'm checking and I'm seeing $360 for receiver, and $300 for the barrel.
I wouldn't mind one of these builds, but saving $160 or more would be a good thing.
And, yes, it would be SBRed.

Not CMMG (that's the first one you'll see unless you dare to venture into the second page of Google results), but RTG parts has them as well at 200$. Looking at the specs, I honestly don't know the difference, but at 50% more I'll assume the CMMGs are somewhat nicer? Haven't read any bad things about people using them (or CMMGs, for that matter).

Fat lot of good it does me, since I can't buy the short tube until my stamp comes in a year and a half from now, lest the ATF bend me over for looking like I got tired of them not doing their job of letting me adhere to their stupid law. I'm banking on them being gone by the time I can buy, so my plan is to turn/ream my own blank. Probably in something other than M12 left-hand thread

Receiver is indeed 350$ if you get the single rail model like I did, so with shipping & transfer it'll be a bit more than you quoted.
