Man, I'm starting to really like these things. Now I have a synthetic stock .243 win (new) and a heavy-bbled, synth stock .17 HMR (used) to go with my wood stocked .45-70 govt. Several dealers also had wood handi-rifles in .500 s&w mag, but ouch they were skimmin, like $294 - ridiculous. I still plan to get a heavy-bbled .223 rem one, and possibly another .243, with a heavy barrel. I suppose I have trashed the idea of just getting barrels and keeping but one receiver. It ain't much more $$ to just have a dedicated receiver for each.

I can vouch for that one. Sub-moa with handloads. About MOA with cheap factory ammo. Prolly MOA with good factory ammo, but I never tried any. Went straight to handloads.

Handi rifles

The Handi Rifle is one of the best values available in today's market. The accuracy and versatility for dollar spent is outstanding.I currently have three Handi's,one of which has two barrels. In addition I succumbed to a barely used Buffalo Classic at a gun show several months back and enjoy shooting it.
They seem to multiply in the dark confines of the gun safe but then most of my rifles do that also, particularly the milsurp models.
Here is a good link for a Handi rifle forum.

Thanks for the info.

Tangent question: the rifle I got horse tradin' had on it a Simmons 8-point 3-9 scope...so is the 8-point line, decent, so-so, or junk?

Lol, yeah, I can feel that phenomenon comin on as well. Yes, thanks, I just fround graybeardoutdoors the other day and like it a lot - it will be awesome when it starts to get more traffic into the highly specific topics. Thanks, whiteknight, kinda what I figured. On second thought, I dunno if I'll be getting a Handi in .223, as it's only a 1 in 12 twist (correct?), and I like heavy bullets. Think I'll get a 527 varmint instead when I get my accurate .223.

Hmmm, nope, looks like they have a 1 in 12 twist as well. What's a tackdriving .223 with a 1 in 9 twist from the factory like a single shot or turnbolt (not an AR)?

What is the street price of a hardwood/blued/heavy barrel one? I'd like to get one in .223 for blasting varmints instead of using my current .270Win.

Savages are tackdriving 223s with 1/9 twist.
