Well I decied to buy a cheap gun today so I went down to J&G to grab a 91/30 hex reciever model. I ended up getting a Tula 91/30 hex reciever ex-sniper for $99. You can see where the hex mount used to be (probably not in the pics though), the taps were filled in very well. The reciever is marked showing that it was tested for sniper "c n" stamped above the Tula mark. Its in great shape, beautiful mirror bore with very defined rifling, nice wood and very smooth action, its dated 1936.

Eventually I'm going to scope it, but I'm out of money right now:(

Anyway here's some pics of it for all you Mosin fans out there:D

OK, I'll be the first to say it.... That's a darn nice rifle! Heck of a buy! Congrats! *drool* :D

Is it bad to suffer from Mosin-envy?! :uhoh:

I keep looking for the hex receiver...I can't find one any where. I have the round, high wall. Now, I want the hex.

nice mosin there. mine had been sittin up on a wall rack since about december. suprised it was there that long. so i decided id give it a good home couple days ago. i supose some people have no idea what they are looking at

I just picked up my 2nd Mosin 91/30. Dunhams had them for $79.00, so I picked up a Tula, 1938. It is so pretty! It has nearly flawless steel and wood.

So, now I have a high-wall round receiver, and a low-wall round receiver. Next, I want to purchase the octangular receivers. How do I identify the "ex-sniper" models?

Thanks,

How do I identify the "ex-sniper" models?

holes are drilled and threaded in the sidewall to mount a scope. a scope may or not been attached. the holes are normaly plugged. and can be seen easy when the bolts open. consists normaly of 2 screw holes ( some models only have 1 screw), and 1 locating/alignment pinhole. pinhole is normaly near/forward of locking lugs. hard to see. screw holes vary by model of mount

theres also forward hex mounts. that mount to hex recievers. and some round recievers. some what harder to notice. 3 small screw holes per side for round and some hex recievers, only 2 screws per side for early hex recievers

most common location of screw holes. mid 40's

forward mounted. holes filled

Doc,
Try Classicarms.com
I received a laminate Hex Receiver ('32 Tula, handpick) 91/30 ($99 + options and s/h).
When it arrived, I was not disappointed. It was'nt an ExSniper, but they also have those. I believe the price is $119.
Good luck.

Good find. '36 is right at the end of the production for the old receivers. I have a '37 that's round. It looks remarkably well intact.
