J&G Sales has regular 91/30s for $60 or $70, I forget, and the ex-sniper version for $10 more. Apparently, the arsenal converted those rifles back to "regular" by dropping in a straight bolt and filling in the receiver tap holes. So, my questions is if those ex-snipers were really handpicked for accuracy by the Soviets. If that's the case, it would definitely be worth it to pay $10 more to get a rifle with better-than-average accuracy. Not to mention the fact that you'd save money because it's already pre-drilled for a scope. One would only have to buy a bent aftermarket bolt, and, voila, you're Vassili Zaitsev. :)

Does anybody have real-world experience with both versions of this rifle?

AZTEC arms also has ex snipers. I've had extremely good luck with the AZTEC guns. http://www.aztecguns.com/Ex_PU.htm

You might want to take a peek here as well. I found this report accuracy report interesting.

The rebuilt sniper shot well with a 1.23" group with handloads and scope. The Finn M39 with 1.58" using open sights and handloads (WOW!!). And standard M91/30 TULA at 4.06 using open sights and milsurp ammo.

I'd like to see what the Finn shoots like with a scope...anyway, back to the subject. I suspect that the rebuild will shoot about on par with a standard 91/30. Any real accuracy advantage may or may not have been negated due to the switching of the bolt. Plus the 1.23" group came from handloads. I suspect milsurp will open it up a good bit.

Good Shooting

Hmmm... the original screw holes have been filled in.. IE, welded. You'd have to drill and tap all over again. Also, the inlet in the stock for the scope mount would have been replaced. Really, no advantage to it in regards to scoping the gun, unless you intend to refurbish it back to original condition.
