picked up a browning buckmark, what should i expect?

picked up a little buckmark camper to go plinking with the family on thanksgiving and work has not allowed me to test it beforehand.

this means i will be unboxing a brand new untested pistol and shooting it on thanksgiving with my family.

we always shoot on the holidays. skeet, steel targets, orios, ritz crackers and such.

i will take prolly 5 guns, ar15s, 22 rifles, 45 autos, shotguns and such.

anyone have any experience with the little brownings? are they problematic till breakin is complete or should it do fine right out of the box? i bought 2.

Mine was great out of the box; digested anything I fed it. I bought a Tactical Solutions barrel for it and put on a decent red dot 2x. She was a tack driver!

"...shooting it on Thanksgiving..." Thanksgiving was last month. Clean it first and take a box of as many brands as you can to find the ammo it shoots well and cycles the action. Just like any other .22 pistol. The price of the ammo means nothing either.

ya, i meant oreos. but its those troublesome double-stuff ones.

if you have never lined up a bunch of oreos and shot them with a rifle or pistol, you've got to try it.

something about the filling being somewhat contained makes a great reactive target.

imagine a spherical explosion radiating outwards from the cookie like one of those magnificent fireworks that bursts outward when it explodes, only more delicious. it actually makes you hungry while you shoot.

Don't forget to bring an entire brick of .22lr just for the Buckmark!

Your planned Thanksgiving shoot is exactly what the Camper was designed for. Doubt that you'll have any break-in issues with it.

Hope you bought a few extra mags to go with it. You're going to have a lot of fun with it.

You can expect to have a lot of fun. Mine shoots excellant w/o any problems. Get extra mags. and that extra brick of ammo mentioned earlier. You have a bundle of fun in that Buckmark. My favorite .22's are the Buck mark and my Ruger mark ll.

I took mine right from the store to their range and ran a brick through it without a problem.

A few other things:

You'll need to find a quality 7/64" hex wrench to remove the barrel. The sight base screws and front sight require a 3/32" hex wrench (one is supplied with the pistol). After the first dis-assembly for cleaning, the sight base screws on mine have a tendency to work loose. Blue loctite has cured the front one; I need to try a little more on the rear. The pistol shoots fine with the back screw loose. If the front one gets too loose you can get light hits. You might not find it necessary, but I keep the wrenches in my range bag.

My standard Buck Mark has been one of the best .22 pistols I've ever owned.

Rarely jams, is very accurate, and just generally a pleasing pistol to own.

Consider getting a metal sight base, the plastic one son the camper are known to crack if you take them apart a lot. They are otherwise fantastic guns and if I find another locally I plan to snatch it.

Clean and lube it, then shoot it. No worries. The Buckmark will be accurate and reliable. Bring a few different ammo types to see what it likes best.

+1 to the Ultimate Cliploader - the more you load without it, the more sore your fingers will get.

I also recommend a Trail-Lite replacement barrel for it if you are going to carry it on the trail.

You'll be very surprised at how much lighter your gun is afterwards, and the accuracy is great. Plus, if you get a threaded one, you can put a suppressor or muzzle break on it.

I like mine, but it's a little picky about ammo. CCI Blazer is the most reliable bulk ammo in it.

Mine subsists primarly on Mini-Mag HPs...and loves them...and they are dead nuts accurate to boot....excellent gun right from the start never any problems in the 10 years owned and cleaned on a couple times in those ten years...just keeps on ticking....lovely gun for beginner and expert alike...

Excellent choice! Weigand Combat makes a top mount Weaver rail for it (MidwayUSA.com). They can be a bit tricky to reassemble when putting the guide rod, spring and tombstone back on the frame. Wear safety glasses as the spring likes to fly. Go slow and you will get it.
