Saturday morning I was out fooling around and decided to stop in one of my favorite pawn shops. I don't usually get any screaming deals from them but they are at least realistic on their pricing which I like. To my surprise they had a quite a few S&W's in the case today. A 686 and a 586 caught my eye. I checked out the 6" 686 first since all I own are stainless revolvers so that is what I gravitate to. It was a no dash model with rubber replacement grips. It was in descent shape but it had some miles on it. They were asking $600 for it and I could not do that without the original grips.

I then asked to see the 6" 586. Since I don't own any blued revolvers it was kind of hard for me to judge the finish since I have no experience. The blueing looked pretty good at the time and it had the original grips. Lockup was tight and the screw heads were not buggered. It was a no dash model and it was not M stamped. They were asking $524.99 but I passed since I generally don't like 6" revolvers.

Well I went home and thought about it and did some reading in my Standard Catalog of S&W and decided if I could get them down a few bucks it may be worth it. They are closed on Sunday so I went up during lunch yesterday. It was still there and I looked at it again. I am not sure what was going through my head on Saturday but after looking at it again I came to the conclusion it was pretty much new. Blueing is near perfect on it and after looking closely it was not fired much.

I would up getting it for $475 out the door with a cheap cloth handgun case thrown in but no box and paperwork. I was trying for $450 but could not get there. I am not sure if I will be sending it in to S&W for the recall or not since I really do not shoot hot .357’s. Sorry for the long post.........

Nice looking 586, good price. I prefer the blued revolvers over stainless, I'm just old school I guess. Stainless is fine, but S&W always did a nice job on their blued revolvers.
My two L frames.

From a few different sources I've heard, S&W isn't taking them back in for recall work pre-emptively and hasn't for several years. If your gun does lock-up because of the fp bushing issue, they WILL fix it. The number affected was very small compared to how widely they cast the recall. Basically, they are taking the position that if a gun was going to have a problem, it would have shown it in the last 30 years...

Now that was a SCORE! The gun looks to be in superb cosmetic condition with no signs of holster wear at the front edges of the cylinder or barrel. And that alone seems rare from all I've seen. And I'm not seeing much of a drag line. Just a little in one pic but not the other. That light enough that it suggests that it hasn't seen a lot of shooting.

Like some of the others I'm much more a shiney blued finish sort of guy than a stainless lover. So when I see a sweet looking 586 like this I swoon a little.... :D
