My dealer got in a GSR 1911 today and I just had to have it. I will post a range report as soon as I can, ill also try to post pics.

Want a GSR Bad....
I am thinking about putting up my P229 for the GSR, hate to part with it....
But that damn GSR calls to me in my sleep, it haunts my days, it is all I can think about...
I will miss her when she is gone.... (Going to replace her with a cheeper 239 or 232)

I got the plain stainless, it sure seems very well built. I had to off 2 guns to buy this, I just took one look and I could not hand it back to be put on the shelve. I probably paid to much $929.00. I have paid more on Kimbers so im not bothered too much. I will let you know how it goes on the range, I should get out tomorrow. I just wish I could do the picture thing with this computer, I just cant get it to work.

Anyone know if Sig is going to come out with a Commander size GSR? I am hoping to pick up a .45 for CCW maybe later in the summer and I would hate to buy something else if there was going to be a GSR in a size a little smaller for IWB carry.

Went to the range that I work at today to hang out and BS with the guys.
And what does one push in front of me, but a brand new GSR in stainless.
He had to twist my arm to take it out and shoot it.
The finish on the gun is very nice, even matte stainless. The sights were
very good plan, no dots or bars. Did not field strip it but the machining
that could be seen on the in side was very good.
Only two complaints on looking the gun over. One is the "Whale tail" on
the palm grip safety. Think Colt tried that a long time ago? Don't see them
any more. Two was when the grip safety is depressed you end up with a
ridge on each side of the safety where the grip sweeps it to the beaver
tail.
Took it out on the range with some reloads and a box of PMC 230 ball.
The gun functioned nicely for 50 rounds then had a FTE!
Put the last of the box of PMC thru the gun with no problems.
If this was my gun it would be going back to Sig to fit a new palm grip
safety. Without the "Whale tail" and the ridge on each side. I would not
want to put 200 or 300 rounds thru the gun like it is could see how that
could hurt the web of the hand.

I've had my GSR to the range twice. First time, it turned out to be too cold to shoot (human-wise), but the pistol functioned perfectly with all types of ammo. Seemed to be shooting a bit high though. Camera batteries were dead so no range pics. The second time, I went to an indoor range and did bench rest groups at 10-15-22 yards (the range is only about 22 yards deep). At 10 yards, the groups were one ragged hole, at 15, the same and at 22, only slightly larger. All groups were under 1.25". The gun was however, shooting about two inches above point of aim. The pistol is extremely smooth and tight. My only complaints are that the pistol shot high and that godawful caspian beavertail has GOT to go. I had to shift my grip to engage it properly and I'm sure that had a lot to do with the poor shooting on the first range trip.
At current, my GSR is at my local smitty getting the following done to it;

- New beavertail (Ed Brown)
- Blended magwell (Smith and Alexander)
- Adjustable rear sight (Novak)
The pistol is a tackdriver, now it'll just drive the tacks I want to drive, not the ones it wants to drive...

Yes my GSR has the whale tail grip safety, I kinda like it but I have not shot it yet so that may change. I really wish I had thought alittle more before I bought this one. I got away from semi's awhile back and now just carry Revolvers. I saw the GSR and it just sparked something, I guess just that its alittle different than other 1911's. Its very well built and the action feels like glass its so smooth. I just cant get over how many little problems I have had with 1911's in the past so I really doubt that this pistol would ever make it to my carry gun stable. I really need to stay out of gun stores for awhile
Don't get me wrong folks, I bought the Sig for two reasons, reliability and accuracy. This gun has both in spades. The changes I'm making are to suit my needs to use this gun as an IDPA pistol.
m1911joe - The beavertail is rather odd in that instead of a bump, it has a ridge that runs down the middle and unfortunately, misses the meat of my hand.
The image doesn't show it well, but it's an odd solution to the grip safety issue. I'm having a more traditional grip safety installed that has a "memory bump". In a conventional grip, the safety is fine, but with two thumbs high, it's hit or miss. I'm having this put on it instead -
. I don't have the two ridges on the side you mention.
I also have one of the S&W 1911's and it has been dead on reliable. The only changes I have made are an ambi safety and a magwell. Otherwise, the trigger is great and accuracy is where it needs to be.
