So stumbled on an 8lb Jug of Promo at the LGS for a very good price. I'm pretty sure the same jug was there a year ago but I never paid it much attention. So I thought with some of the common powders being sold out I'd give it a whirl. Have done a few loads using some tried and trued Red Dot loads and so far I'm liking the Promo in my 12ga's. Haven't gone too deep into it yet as I'm waiting for some parts for my Pacific 366 to arrive to go into production, but the single still cranks some out. Perfect timing too because I'm about to order a Trius One-Step thrower since I don't have anyone to throw clays for me. Just thought I'd chime in with my experience with it since there aren't a ton of threads about it.

Can Promo be used in pistol cartridges as well using Red Dot data? Just curious, no certain calibers in mind.

Yes.

I have used Promo for some 38Spl, 9mm, 40S&W and 45ACP loads with good results using jacketed/plated/lead bullets referencing current Alliant Red Dot load data and 2004 Alliant load data by weight.

I did a pdf of 2004 Alliant Red Dot load data for pistol loads to help with referencing for Promo loads - http://www.thehighroad.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=141716&d=1304657266

Here's my initial testing with 9mm/40S&W loads - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=518185

I have several kegs of 700-X and Promo that I use for a lot of handgun loading. Probably will last me my lifetime if I do not go too wild with the lead slinging.;)

I've been using Promo for 7/8oz loads in my 12ga. It meters very closely, works very well, and seems to do the job. And you're right... the price is attractive.

Been using Promo for 2 years now for 12 gauge sporting clays. I couldn't be happier with it. Meters well, burns clean. Love it and you can't bet the price.
