Went to a friend's place New Year's morning for his annual new years shoot. All in all there were about 20 people there, and probably 20 different firearms from 6 owners. The 14 others had either never shot before or only shoot once a year (at this party). Of the 14, about 8 were women. Everybody shot something. I had the opportunity to shoot my friends 1911, a S&W .40, a 30-30 lever action, a glock, and an M1 Carbine :neener: I brought my M44 and Ithaca 37. The M44 was really popular. I think because it was the loudest and it had a bayonet :D One of the new shooters recognized it from a video game.

I had the honor of shooting alongside the host at the kickoff of the event. He shot his M1 Carbine while I shot the M44. It was WWII again and the only Nazi in sight took the form of a 17" computer monitor peeking over the top of a log. "I get first shot at the monitor, after that, it's fair game." he said. He began to unload into the monitor and I followed suit. About the time he finished his 30-round mag, I had just finished my second set of 5 rounds and the monitor was decimated. One of the bystanders commented: "You could really tell who was shooting! It was like: 'pop, pop, pop, BOOM, pop, pop, BOOM, pop' "

For the next 3 hours, we celebrated the new year in the most American of fashion. Somewhere between 5 and 10 people shot their very first firearm that day, and like I said, there was a even distibution of women present.

Here are some pics from the day, at various stages of the day. Note that the pine tree was unshot and straight before we did our thing.

Bottom-two smaller pics are clickable, they will bring you to two movies of the M1 in action!
