Didn't get after the deer but I did manage this guy. Used my grandpa's old 1903 that he carried in WW2 and gave to me when I got old enough to hunt.

Is that elk a Roosevelt? It looks more like a Rocky Mtn. type. Nice job with the '03.
(I thought they were just used as sniper guns in WWII.)

It's a 6x6 Rock Mountain elk. The 1903 was the standard rifle issued at the start of the campaign in the Pacific and was gradually replaced by the M1 Garand as they became available. My grandpa was a Seabee so they were pretty low on the totem pole to get the M1s.

4 x 5 Oregon Mule Deer

Hunting with all my kids for the first time ever (all 3 got time off work or played hooky from college). My daughter kicked this one up and it came my direction. Would much rather her have shot it, but thankful for some success. She carries a M70 stainless featherweight is 6.5 Swede, me a Kimber Montana in .308, both wear nice made in Oregon Leupolds!

Nothing on the ground, but I did get a few pics of this guy as he meandered through within spitting distance of my stand (sorry, it was taken a bad phone camera).

This one from early Jan 2012. A 20 yard running shot. The gun is a .62 (.600" patched ball) smoothbore flintlock musket/fowler. A comparatively large doe for these parts.

Yeah, definitely not a moose. . .especially in my part of the world. Not really sure what I'd do if a moose walked by my stand. Probably pack it up and go home because I'd swear I was delirious.

This was one of a few medium sized black bears that wandered through in about a 45 minute stretch.
