As for bolting down the safe:
Living arrangements are temporary, will bolt down when something a little more permanent comes into play. It's sitting on a couple pieces of 2x4 because my bedroom floods when it rains heavily. Poorly constructed.
Cheek Piece:
Works wonders. I bought the one inch risers when I bought the scope because I had a feeling the scope wouldn't clear without them, and sure enough they won't. So for a while I had to deal with literally no cheek-weld.
I was sitting around one day thinking about how some people made their own cheek pieces, with little bits of money, which I don't have, and decided to get intuitive. I found an old shirt and cut a couple good-sized peices from it, put them where I wanted them making sure I had room to operate the bolt, then duct-taped it to the stock, then covered it with the shell holder, and covered the exposed duct tape with electrical vinyl tape. And done. Even though it's not exactly perfect as far as aligning my eyes with the scope with a perfect cheek-weld, I get more of a chin-cheek-weld, a position that does better for me anyhow.
Turkish Mauser:
Yes, that's a Turk, Made in Ankara, it's a "K-Kale" made in 1940. No, the bolt butchering is not of my doing. Someone here in Council Bluffs had no idea what he was doing to this fine, accurate rifle. So, paying for his mistake, I have an otherwise nice piece of military hardware.
