I was in Academy today and saw some Pierce ammo called Primary Defense. It's JHP and sold in 20 round boxes as a high end defense cartridge would be, only cheaper.

Anybody use this? Results?

It's "rolled" in Buffalo NY so it should be ok. I would like to try some but nearest dealer is about 200 miles from me. What are prices like for boxes of 20?

I was only shopping for .45 ACP. It was selling for $18.99 for a box of 20. The Hydro Shocks were selling for $28.99. That's why I'm wondering whether they are any good. :)

My sole experience with this ammunition was 200 grain XTP loaded into Speer 40 cal cases.

That weight XTP has as its primary use the 10mm at the higher 10mm velocities. In my 40 cals (G22, G27, G23 Smith 4006) expansion in wet sand and water jugs was not up to par with the high end factory stuff marketed by Remington, Speer, Winchester and etc.

When it comes to potentially saving my life, and the lives of loved ones, I'm going with the major factories. The marginal difference in cost, spread over the five years I keep a particular batch of factory ammunition, is insignificant. My hide is worth a whole lot more than that marginal difference.

Looking at prices I will pass. Pierce ammo and Academy Sports benefit while I get nothing extra out of this deal. I can get Hornady 155gr XTP 10mm for $17.50/20.

From Google search is appears to be in Orchard Park not very far from Quaker Boy Turkey calls place. Nowadays these loading companies spring up like mushrooms after fall rains.
