Brought my 1860 Army out to the range today. On the 6th shot, the front site post went flying off to God knows where. Spent 30 minutes looking for it to no avail. From my understanding, Cabelas does not take black powder fire arms returns. Is there anything I can do other than return it to the manufacturer? I saw one seller that sold front sight posts, but it was for the blued version of the 1860 Army.

If it came from a big box store, I found a thread that said to call EMF which is owned by Pietta.

"Call them EMF is the primary distributor for Pietta in the US. Call them. Becky can get you to the repair/custom shop.
1-800-430-1310...they are in Santa Ana, Ca. Good folks to deal with."

If EMF can't help you fix it, then email Pietta and they should send you the parts needed to fix it.--->>> E-Mail : [email protected]
They've sent necessary parts to other people who have had troubles with newer revolvers.
If you know the distributor who sold you the gun [which is Cabela's] then they should be able to direct you to who can fix it.

To be honest, it could be a blessing in disguise since the front sight often needs to be replaced with a higher one in order to sight it in.
They're fairly easy to make and some folks even use a coin.

I have done all my 1860 Armies the way Mike does his. The only thing I do different is, I solder the blades in as the last step.
On the 51s I solder in a piece of 1/8th brass rod.
Widening the the hammer slot is a must.
Heres my 1860 Pietta "Old Silver"after I finished it, and before sighting in.
The only thing you have to watch on the blue models when sil soldering in the front sight is, the flux will mess up the bluing around the sight. you have to touch it up afterwords.

Sucks that it happened on a new revolver but it's a pretty easy and inexpensive fix that it's probably not worth sending back to Pietta/EMF over. As arcticap points out the 1860 front sight is very often too short and they shoot significantly high so it's an opportunity to make it better by adding a taller one. I fashioned my own using a thick coin that had a goldish color to it. I likely saved the original one I removed and if I can find it I would be happy to send it to you. I used a little black epoxy in the slot to secure mine and it's held up for at least 2 or 3 years so far.
