Thanks, mykeal

The codes start off logically enough, but the pattern soon escapes me.

I didn't say I was giving up on the entire population. I said I was scared (i.e. wary).

I might just order the Navy Arms. It's only $25 more than the one Cabela's sells, and I can always send it back. Dixie is easy to deal with.

I'll post a follow-up if/after I get it.

Thanks.

Could it be to keep down confusion?

For years I thought that mine read [BO] , then I read the code list, looked at my code again and there it was - - - - ..........[BD]........ Bigger 'n' Dallas.

Well, the missing 'E' in the B series is what made me say there's no pattern.

If you ignore that (everyone has a 'flyer' now and then), the pattern is to omit G, J, K, O, Q, R, V, W, and X presumably due to possible confusion of:
G, O and Q with D,
J with I,
R with P,
V and W with U and
K and X with each other, perhaps.

Maybe the real screwup is the inclusion of 'E' in the A series - it can be confused with F pretty easily and they just didn't realize that until it was too late. So, there won't be a CE, and the future codes will be:
2008 - CC
2009 - CD
2010 - CF
2011 - CH
2012 - CI
2013 - CL
2014 - CM
2015 - CN
2016 - CP
2017 - CS
2018 - CT
2019 - CU
2020 - CZ

Notice my optimism regarding the future. It's here that the CL's jump in and opine that the current Democrat political agenda is to prevent that from happening.

Well, as for the question about Uberti vs. Pietta.

It does not make any difference where one might buy the revolver, althogh I can personally attest that DGW is a fine place with which one might do business. The safest and most practical way to resolve the issue is to have the sample that you will purchase in your hand before you purchase it, checking it out thoroughly, of course.

At one time, I would have bet that Uberti would have beaten Pietta any day of the week, but I'm not so sure now. I just bought a sight-unseen 1851 Navy revolver in 44 caliber--the odd duck that Pietta builds. It is a splended specimen for all of $225; everything works and it is well blued and fitted. It came from Cabela's, via a trade.

I have a Traditions stainless Remington, also by Pietta. That one took some work by a local gunsmith before it would perform well. However, it is now an excellent gun and a lot of fun.

Get the thing into your hands before you buy, If you can.
