I'm looking to get a good 1858, but the prices are all over the place. Which one is the best for the money or are they about the same in quality?

I know they say the UBERTI spec's are closer to the real mcCoy, but I sure do like the way Pietta colts work right outa the box. It's also said that some distributors quality check their guns. That said, I like to deal with EMF. So far they've provided quality at a fair price.

I like Uberti over Pietta but for the price it is hard to beat this 1858 on sale. Only $5 shipping and a satisfaction guarantee from Cabelas is a great deal! If you have money to blow then go for an Uberti otherwise if you are looking for the best value as your first Remington BP revolver go for the Pietta.

Does anybody here know which company makes the Cabela's 1851 & 1861 Colt navy revolvers? I went online and the representative on their chat line wouldn't divulge who made them.

They said since the products were exclusive to Cabela's, the manufacturer wouldn't let them give out their name. This seemed kind of odd since I have a Cabela's Blue Ridge rifle...which is clearly marked "Pedersoli."

From what I've seen & heard, Uberti does a better Colt, Pietta does a better Remington. I'd look for a Pietta Shooter's Model, unless you are going for a serious match gun.

Thank you denster for that information. Looks like I'll be getting my 1861 Navy from Dixie Gun Works.

Hey iron maiden: :) Never purchased one from DIXIE.....
Would like to know your OUTA the BOX impressions on it. Other than needing packing grease removed, does it need any tweaking, such as burrs, and, or loose screws?

I have noticed that the Uberti's front sight is dovetailed for adjustments, but the Pietta does not. The cylinders are rather soft on both. I have read that the frames are cast, but the newer ones are forged. I can't imagine it makes any difference due to the low pressures. Fit and finish on both are just short of outstanding.

Your choice of manufacturers are Uberti and Pietta. These days, they seem to be about equal in quality.

Some distributors such as Taylors and Cimmarron often special order custom versions and/or customize with different finishes, markings, or options -- at higher prices of course.
