A friend has a single action Uberti in 45LC. I believe this to be an 1873 Cattleman. It is missing the base pin. It is the pin that comes out so the cylinder can be removed. I'm trying to locate one. I'm reading that there are base pins with and without safeties? That the distributor matters? How do I find the correct pin? The frame of the of the Cattlemen apparantly come in variations. One frame I have seen had the base pin screw ( in front of the trigger guard) with the head of the pin proud, sticking up out of the frame. The revolver in question has a hole in the frame with the base pin screw recessed within. Any ideas of what to ask for when I call Uberti in the AM?

I wouldn't call Uberti.

I would call Belt Mountain and get a base pin that actually fits like it should.
You need one for a Colt frame.

The screw retention model is called a black-power frame.
The push-button model is called a smokeless frame.
The base pins are the same.

Thanks RC...I just got off the Brownells site and had found the Belt Mountaiun one for Colt clones. Thanks for the info on the pins being the same. Makes it a whole lot easier. I noticed on the Uberti site that they had parts kits but none of them contained the actual base pin. Just the springs, screws etc. I thought it strange that they didn't even list the base pin as an available part. Thanks again. I'll call Belt Mountain in the morning.

What he said! I would go for the Belt Mt #5 basepin, like I have here on this 3rd generation Colt New Frontier .45.
