I own/owned/fired lots of different ones over the years. Still have the Marlin 357, Ruger PC9, M1 Carbine.

If you just want a plinker, many friends say the Hi Point 9mm is inexpensive, reliable, accurate, cheaper to feed. I wouldn't buy one myself, since I have other options, but it might suit you fine.

I like the PC9 (no longer made, but available) because it is rugged, mounts an optic easily with Ruger rings, uses the well-made 20-round Mecgar mags, shoots silver dollar sized groups to 50-60 yards. Very useful where I live in the desert mountains...but then so is the Marlin and the M1 Carbine.
