Ive been looking around for some pistols, and have come to the decision that i should either get a Taurus .45, a Charles Daly .45, or a SIG .45. The reason im not too particular about models is because i want to hear the best of all makes, and for reference, this wont be concealed, so if you could mention only semi-auto pistols, with a full-size frame, that would be great. have fun, and if you can think of any guns that are good but can be found NEW for under $500 that would be GREAT, thanx all you guys, and have fun with the conversation.

Oh my.....Charles Daly, Taurus or Sig.....hmmmm......let's think.

Sig.

Simple.

Although the Taurus 945 is cool, still ain't a Sig.

ok, specific reason plz, i would like to have facts, and make my decision based on those, not oppinions. oppinions matter, but i would like fact base oppinions if at all possible, thanx

Okay heres the facts man.

Sig is a much higher quality pistol than either Charles Daly (who is an importer not a manufacturer, the C.D. 1911 is actually made by Armscor) or Taurus though a Taurus is not a bad pistol.

The Sig is carried by a LOT of U.S. law enforcement agencies, that knowledge and .50 cents can get you a Coke.

Taurus has a lifetime warranty but not great customer service.

Sig has no stated warranty that I have heard of but their customer service will bend over backwards to make you happy, including free accessories you thought should have been included in the purchase. They are REALLY nice folks.

Taurus does not have many holsters or after market support.

Sig litterally has hundreds.

The magazines for the Taurus and Sig cost about the same.

The Sig is a little more robust and tighter feeling with a better trigger.

The Taurus can be cocked and locked.

The Sig is more reliable in my experience not requiring the 3-5 hundred rounds the Taurus may have, though that is completely subjective to the individual gun.

The Sig has a better trigger all around.

Now as for Charles Daly, they are hit or miss, their lifetime warranty is a little misleading considering any aftermarket alterations to it will void it. They have been known to have quality control issues and not back up their products with good service.

The guns you mention are really NOTHING alike except for a Taurus 945 or Sig 220. If you want to compare a Sig 220 to a 945 I will be willing to help you out, but just vaguely comparing Charles Daly to Taurus to Sig is a little hard...especially since a Taurus 145 is nothing like the 945.

I also recommend searches on these.

The Taurus may be a better value for you; it is a really good pistol...but it's not as slick as the Sig.

Kind of like a Suped up Subaru vs. a Porche, they will both go the same speed and take the same corners, but one handles a little slicker.

Sig has a well-earned reputation and the P220 (.45) from what I have seen is the most popular even among Sigs. I know it will be one of my next purchases

The Sig GSR is the highest quality of the three HANDS DOWN.
The highest priced of the three mentioned but it's just as good as many of the higher priced brands. It will also hold it's value.

I have only fired two Armscor guns but they ran flawlessly.
VERY good value for the money.

The Taurus PT1911 hasn't seen the light of day yet. The two shown at this years SHOT were tool room samples so the jury is still out on quality.
But at a MSRP of $499 it could be a stong contender for market share. Only time will tell.

only one name comes to mind

glock 21 ( full size .45, with plus twos on your mags you can have 15 rounds of love in your gun at one time ) OH YEA BABY !!!!

muchos gracias

thanx everybody for all of your input, i would exaggerate, but i have some research to do thanx to you guys. again, thanx

My nephew is an armorer for our Sheriff's dept and also works the firing range and is a SWAT officer. He swears by Sig, and they are an excellent gun. But if I may possibly complicate your decision, I have a Ruger P90TH that I would not trade for anything. (OK, maybe that is an exaggeration) I know lots of people have an issue about Ruger politically, but my P90 is built like a tank, eats anything I throw at it and is way more accurate a gun than I am a shooter. They go for around $375-400 new.

Hope you enjoy whatever you choose!!!

+1 Glock

Although I don't have a 21 (I have a 17 thats a 9mm ) the only trouble I've had with it is putting it down. My hand keeps going back to it... it makes me drive to the range... I don't know what to do!!

I know! I'll buy a G21

I have owned a Charles Daly, and I would advise you to continue to look at other options. While it is a good looking pistol on the exterior, it leaves a lot to be desired in the tolerance department. While my gun would run as reliable with hollow points as it would with fmj, that's all the good I can say about it. Mine shot at least a foot low at 10 yards, and shot 6 inch groups at that range with handloads off of a good rest. It would also fail to go into battery very regularly. So I sent it back to the factory and six weeks later the gun was returned with a note stating that lead fouling was the reason for the poor accuracy ( I had never fired any cast bullets in the gun). Also the trigger pull that had never smoothed up was not addressed as I had requested. So I took it to the local gunsmith which fit it a new barrel bushing, which did help the group size but not the POI. So try finding sights for their dovetails.
I know another guy who does a lot of custom 1911 gunsmithing( I met him after I had sold mine) who tried to smooth up a stainless Charles Daly. He said every part that he tried to work on went out of spec and had to be refitted with oversize parts.
If you were to look at the internals on my C.D. you would notice that they just had a rough apearance.
All that being said the slide to frame fit was really good, and it was really a much tighter gun than a couple of colts that I looked at about the same time. But there Warranty is a joke.

You will find that everyone has their favs. And, some people tend to focus on 1 particular brand to the exclusion of all others.

I've never been into Sigs myself. I prefer Berettas myself. Springfield also makes good 1911s. And, I plan to get a Smith and Wesson 1911 soon.

If money is an issue, Ruger semi-autos are probably your best bet.

I own a Taurii, SIGs, and a CZ-PCR as well as a BHP.

Let me give you a little analogy...

Do you ride motorcycles? Is there a helmet law where you live? Yes? Good. Now, since you have to wear a helmet, as safety equipment, would you rather have a nice, $500 profession helmet, say a Bell, or a $35 piece of polyethelene-covered styrofoam with vinyl straps from Ed Earl's House O' Skidlids? How much are your dense little craniofacial bones worth in terms of protection?

Me, I carry a SIG daily. When I rode daily, I wore the pricey helmet. I never scratched the helmet on asphalt and I've never had my SIG not go 'bang' when I wanted it to.
The other pistols come out for the range, but they are not the ones I rely on day in, day out. My carry SIG isn't the most expensive firearm I own, but it's reliable and works. It works every time...like my helmet.

Cheap is fine until it's safety equipment. My CCW is my safety equipment. If price is your only concern, you might consider reassessing your safety priorities.

Regards,
Rabbit.
