Pistol on deer

That's funny because I was telling my wife that I wanted to mount a Lever and set of single action revolvers on deer antler stands above our bed when the kids move out.

She looked at me like I had a third head.

My wife humors my gun and reloading habits and in return I don't get after her about her sewing room and quilting machine and all those boxes of fabric. Actually, she likes the rustic, western look. I have a buck shoulder mount, a Javelina, a mallard mount, and a .50 cal percussion rifle hanging in the living room. :D

Though I've owned a couple of Contenders, I never grew to like them all that much. All my handgun deer were taken with two S&Ws (a 4" M19 and a 6" 686 .357), a RBH .41mag and a RSBH .44mag. kills ranged from 8ft out to 90 yards. Only one shot was needed each time and none ran any farther than deer hit with rifles.

If it were me, I'd go with 30-30 like MCgunner. Easier to deal with and doesn't force you to reload unless you want to. I went the revolver route personally and have a SRH in 480 and a BFR in 480/475. (41 mags too.) But I have no illusions about shooting 200 yds at anything living other than maybe a coyote.
