I saw this on the news tonight and to my pleasant suprise they showed a gun owner in a positive light

http://www.kxly.com/northidahonews/22089081/detail.html

The owner of Sunshine Espresso in Coeur d'Alene fought fire with fire - literally - when she pulled a handgun on a 17-year-old boy who tried to rob her stand Wednesday morning.
Police arrested the teen shortly after the incident, which took place just before 6:30 a.m. in the 1900 block of Government Way.
Sunshine Espresso owner Michelle Cornelsen said the teen walked up to her stand and demanded cash without showing the gun at first
“He didn’t have it at first, he was playing with his pocket, I had a bad feeling though. I had a bad feeling about him,” Cornelsen said.
What the robber didn’t know is that Cornelsen has had her concealed weapons permit for seven years and she had received a new 9mm handgun for Christmas from her husband.

There is more to the story and a video if you go to the link.

Am I the only one who is happy to see guns shown in a good way on the news?

and is it sad that in the 1/2 second they show the gun, I said to myself 'pf9'?

b-b-b but she only made things worse by escalating the level of violence in the situation. would you just stop and think about the cycle of violence? where will it end?!

Yep, PF9. Any bets she starts carrying that little "9mil" closer at hand? From the interview, she needed to retrieve the pistol [speculation] from her purse. [/speculation] It's tough for women sometimes to find the right combination of clothes and carry options. My wife and I have this conversation at least once a month. Glad no one was hurt and they should charge this teen as an adult.

Nice! A good SD story. She also handles her PF9 very well, keeping the finger extended instead of in the trigger area.

She deserves a serious high five.

Clothes and carry options is a very good point. My friend wanted to get his wife a 38spl revolver, but knows it will end up in her purse. Honestly, I think that's the real reason mouseguns exist (especially the NAA 22mag mini), to be concealable in unforgiving attire, which is often the trendy/fashionable stuff.

so she brandished her gun and didn't get charged? awesome!

I do have to admit its pretty refreshing to see a story about gun owners in a positive light. Doesn't happen very often :/

One nice thing is she did not sound like a moron. The news has a habit of finding the dumbest person and interviewing him.

She did well and no one died.

Very well done. Kept her composure and had the presence of mind to not panic! Good story that should be in the next issue of American Rifleman.

Good for her.

It seems she could have had it more accessable though; judging only from the video SOB carry looks to be ideal. She's in an espresso stand (i.e., small, enclosed box) and likely on her feet most of the time. SOB carry with a PF9 would have been easily concealable with what she had on, and quickly accessable.

I can't imagine that happening here in Seattle as it's pretty hard to carry concealed when wearing a thong & pasties.....which is getting to be standard barista attire around here!

Coeur d'Alene

Welcome to my home town.

:D

Yeah, we've had a rash of coffee kiosk robberies in the Spokane / Coeur d'Alene areas lately. Funky economy isn't helping. The girls at my favorite spot have also discussed maybe packing heat. Only one of them seems to be serious, though.

Had a brief conversation with one gal behind the counter, wherein I queried, "what, you don't carry a pistol?" And she apologized! Said it was on her to-do list.

Love this place.

If Idaho would only ban guns like Detroit, NYC, etc. stuff like this wouldn't happen... :banghead:

Then there would be no way this lady would have had any means to defend herself, except for maybe throwing hot water at him. Of course, then she would have been sued, like McDonald's.
