I live in upstate NY....Its a great place to live in my opinion except when it comes to getting a pistol permit....It involves the normal bull**** like taking a firearm class and filling out a bunch of paperwork.....If thats not bad enough then you have to get finger printed.....Now normally I wouldn't mind this if I could get it done....Since I live in the city limits I have to go to the city police to get this done by appointment only....I have been there 4 time and have yet to get my fingerprinting done......Every time I call to make an appointment they talk to me like I am a huge hassle and its a waste of there time.....When I show up for my appointment they are always out of the building for some reason or another.....I am seriously getting tired of this and want to give up....Its hard for me to take time off work to go and get this done.......And the kicker is when and if I get my finger prints taken and they file the paperwork I prolly wont see my permit for 6 months.....I really hate my state/county....The only thing that keeps me going is thats what they want....They make it such a pain to get that there hoping it deters people from wanting one......Has anyone else experienced such bull****......

You think NY is bad , be lucky you don't live in NJ - you need to do the same thing for handguns AND long guns- and that includes fingerprinting , references and all of that stuff. And once you turn in the application some police department's won't issue the permit for months ( if ever) .

Yea we have to do the references for are pistol permit also.....This is the last thing I have to do before I turn the application in....I have all the paper work filled out and Notarized, and I have the post office money orders.....I am just getting aggravated.....I wish I could just go to the local Sheriffs office to get this done, but I have to go to the city clowns....

i can tell it's bad just from what alot of people are like over there. my sister was talking about a woman that moved to this area (Boise Idaho area and surrounding cities) and she was astounded that people had guns in thier cars and what not... in idaho, i bet that about 50-75% of all cars in a wal mart parking lot have a gun in them somewhere. that lady was freaking out over a person even owning a gun in the first place! if you live in idaho, guns are just an everyday thing. get used to it.

Where i live in nc it's a reather small sherrif dept and they only process ccw paper work every wed for 3 hours. Had to do all the same stuff but only took two trips to get printed and had everything done by them in 2 weeks. Parts of the state there take a lot longer.

Yea and some gun stores wont let you touch the guns until they see your permit....Also I live in Oneida county so they like to issue restricted licenses.......Once you get that then you have to appeal it for a unrestricted....PAIN IN THE ASS

Ahhh - good ole Tennessee - where packing in bars is not only legal - it's encouraged...

4 million residents - 400,000 carry permits.

Better watch out bad guys!

Just so you know, most of the rest of the country doesn't consider that "normal" (or constitutional, BTW). You have my sympathies.

Remember the contempt your authorities treated you with the next time you vote. I love that quote by Suzanna Gratia Hupp, when she said:
How a politician stands on the Second Amendment tells you how he or she views you as an individual... as a trustworthy and productive citizen, or as part of an unruly crowd that needs to be lorded over, controlled, supervised, and taken care of.

It is unfair but like I said the only thing that keeps me going is the thought that this is what they want.....They don't want me to have a pistol so they will make it as hard as possible.....

I was fingerprinted, dropped off $66, got my permit in the mail three weeks later.

In Albany NY all the paperwork, fingerprinting, and safety class will set you back the better part of $200.Then you will wait from 10 months to a year before you see a judge and are issued your permit. 99% of permits issued in Albany are restricted to hunting and target shooting. They will not issue permits to carry concealed to ordinary citizens.

Montess85, I LOVE upstate NY. I grew up on LI and went to college at Binghamton... also lived in several other upstate areas. I was also fortunate enough to spent quite a bit of time exploring the upstate region on a bicycle (bicycle touring/ riding). I miss it.

HOWEVER! I will NEVER return to NY.... which is unfortunate because I provide a valuable service to the community. I refuse to live in a state that taxes the hell out of its people and treats them as irresponsible children, making them jump through hoops to exercise their constitutional rights.

I've voted with my feet.... but, the NY legislators could care less.

I feel for you man. Look on the bright side, VT is only a state away...

I wish I could just go to the local Sheriffs office to get this done, but I have to go to the city clowns....

This is the line of thinking that got the people in the predicament that they are in.

That is like saying I wish my rights were only infringed a little bit.

Mot45acp I couldnt agree with you more....I cant help but feel that way....It shouldn't be this way.....You know its bad when you start thinking that way....

maroast ... I love everything about this area....The Adirondacks are beautiful.....This state has a lot to offer the outdoors man.....There is much more to this state the NYC.....But there the ones who ruin it for the rest of us....They outnumber us, and we are poorly represented....I wish they would make them a separate state

Hang in there. It is a pain. I like to think that the most stalwart gun owners are those who persevere in states like ours, where it isn't so easy.

For what it's worth, I got mine with a hunting/target restriction a few years ago. After I had it for a year, I sent the judge a polite letter, and he removed the restrictions.
