I am beginning to believe that if you don't shoot rifles you cannot reload anymore! Everywhere I go it is "we haven't gotten any pistol powder in over a year"
On the other hand 22 bullets are beginning to show up with regularity, cheapest I've found 7 cents/round.
PMC 223 everywhere, cheapest 38 cents/ round.
Hopefully pistol powder is on its heels.

Wild thought. Any rifle powder worth lookinf at for 357, say 3031, CFE, even 4895. Just wondering if it is possible or has anyone tried it. (I don't think it would)

This has been an ongoing discussion in numerous posts. If you want pistol powder it's available on the internet. Powder Valley, is just one of several companies that have it; I recently purchased eight pounds. You may not find Winchester 231 or your particular favorite but if you do your homework you can find a powder for just about any cartridge.

Like the poster above me said, keep an eye out online and you are bound to find nearly anything you would need within a couple weeks.

Loading 357 mag? Recobs has h110 and w296 in stock.

I feel your pain, definitely not much in Eastern NC! I've used CFE Pistol in 9mm and 45 ACP with very good results. I got a pound at Macks near Plymouth a few months ago, got good results and ordered 8 lbs from Recobs. I have also used BE-86 in 38spc with good results. Both the 9 and 45 were coated lead bullets, but the 38's were straight lead. The 38's shot well, but leading was a problem. BE-86 seems to burn hot to me. I'm scared to try CFE Pistol in 38 due to having problems with Autocomp in same round. My understanding is CFE-Pistol is Autocomp with some additives. Autocomp did not do well for me in the large case of the 38, several squibs until I learned to point muzzle up after loading and give it a couple of taps to settle powder down to primer. I have never tried it in 357. At this time, my go to powder for 357 is Blue Dot, but it is not to be found. I currently have plenty of that on hand, some bought and some given to me, so I'll be shooting full house magnums for a while. I personally know some that only use H110/296 for 357 and love it.

Check the larger stores in your area or try an online source like Powder Valley or Recobs. A large enough order can help offset the Hazmat fee.

Thanks for info. I'm in mid coastal NC. Everytime I call natchez or cabelas. They have no BE, RD, Unique, HP-38, etc. I have started shooting 4227, but that is really not a mild powder.
I tend to like soft shooters like above in my 357.

In central NC where I live (in my area) it's powder heaven as far as Hodgdon and Alliant goes. I was in my LGS last week and they even have 5 lb jugs of Trailboss. I hear more complaining about trying to find it than anything.

I don't think the places you are frequenting are even trying to get it. My LGS can't be more than 1500sqft for the whole show room. Right now more than 1/3 of their floor space is one 30' shelf of rifle and pistol powder, the only one I haven't seen yet is Universal, but I'm sure it's coming some time soon.

I will say this, I wish they sold Accurate brand powder because I would like to try AA7. They have bought some VV but it isn't selling well because of it's price.

I really feel bad for you members that can't buy powder. I have to be truly lucky with where I live.

As far as using rifle powder in a .357 mag, you may as well save your time and money.

When is your next road trip to the Greensboro - Winston-Salem area?

Email me and bring lots of cash! I can help you with that.

Powder in Eastern , N.C.

I am having the very opposite experience . Walked in my local dealer today and bought 2 lbs. of Bullseye . He had 6 lbs. on the shelf . I am also having good luck at our local gun shows . Have stocked up on bullseye, HP-38 , Universal and others. I have 26lbs. of powder on my bench . That may not sound like a lot to some of you but for the amount I shoot it is a plenty . By the way I am in Jacksoville , N.C.

Unique

Cabela's is showing a good stock of Unique and Bullseye in addition to plenty of other Alliant powders. Also Accurate powders including #7. So while your local shops may not be seeing any thereis plenty to be had. I was down in NC over Memorial Day Weekend and bought a few pounds of Bullseye at the Winston Salem gun show. Got a sweet original M14 stock too in Walnut with metal for $30. Damn, I love that show. :)
