Pistol to carry

Hello,
My wife needs a pistol to carry or keep under her car seat. "She wants something pretty looking, bright and shiny." But still have stooping power. Traditional double action. Her S&W Mdl. 60 doesn't fit the bill anymore. She would like something with a substanial grip. Colt 1911 is out of the question, too complicated. S&W MDL 10 M&P "is not pretty enough". Any suggestions, help, or advise would be greatly appreciated. She does not listen to me anymore. Thank-you, Paul:banghead:

how about one of the Kahr series of pistols like the K9 or the K40? better grip than a snubby, packs plenty of punch, and simple to use. (double action, no safties to disengage.)

Why has the simple to use, stylish, magnum powered, traditional defensive tool for women fallen into such ignoble disfavor???

Does she want an uprate in power??

Is she looking for more capacity???

Does she want to make a bigger hole???

Has bottom feeder lust taken hold of her very soul???

There are autoloaders as there are grains of sand, these days, it seems!!!
I mean, the Korth autoloader is stylish, shiny, cute, and costs more money than probably you or I make in an entire month or two!!

Without answers to the profound questions, above, any answer or suggestion would be like urinating in a strong breeze!!!

In short, we need some more concrete information other than "shiny" or "cute"!!!!!

I agree with Sistema. Wives don't listen to husbands, anyway. There's a level of respect that gets lost in the bond a husband and wife shares that prevents them from looking at us objectively, and us vice-versa, and be able to take advice on an issue without the relationship interfering. It is a rare husband that is able to instruct his wife on any matter, even if he's a professional in the area. I bet Dale Earnhart's pit crew chief gets crap from his wife when the car needs brake service and he says he'll fix it. "Honey, its a Toyota, you work on American cars; take it into the shop and let someone who knows how to work on it do it." Or, "You don't do it the way they do; they vacuum out the car and wash it before they're done." "You'll make a mess in the garage." Sound familiar?

Seriously, you need to let her decide on her own what she wants. Otherwise, its not her gun, its one you gave her, and she'll never take ownership of it or responsibility for her safety with it. Part of the process for women in taking ownership of the role of protecting themselves is the act of selecting their own handgun. Doesn't mean she can't consult you, but you can't do all the work for her.

decent quality ... "shiny" ... inexpensive enough that you won't mind throwing it under the seat of the car.

A stainless S&W 6946 would fit the bill! Double stack grip with a 3.25" barrel and a darn nice DAO trigger just like the revolver she is use to!!!

Well, first of all is the age old question of how much handgun experience
does she have? Even though we are in the "Autoloaders" section of the
forum, for females and first time gun owner's I always suggest a good
revolver; like the S&W model 60, or 642. I have a little scenario that I
play out for them along the lines of self-defense; and after I carefully
demostrate too them that it takes two hands to clear a jam in an auto
loader, most are convinced that the old revolver ain't half bad after all.

With that said, if they still want an autoloader something from the SIG
line would seem like a good choice.

I'm going to assume that you're not arming an inexperienced shooter -- and save the lecture on training, etc.

My wife prefers her Ruger KP93 to all my other guns. It's solid (31 oz) and the recoil is very manageable for her. I have a piar of Hogue wrap-around grips on it (which would meet your "substantial grip" criteria) but she doesn't have a problem even though she's only 5'2". The KP93 is a decocker-only gun...no external manual safety

And best of all -- you can pick them up for around $300!

How about...

... a Model Ten Smith & Wesson revolver, chop the barrel to just in front of the extractor lug, re-set the frong sight, round the butt, remove the hammer spur.

Then, fully engrave it with scrollwork and have it nickle plated - perhaps with gold plated trigger and hammer? A fancy set of Herrett's walnut Shooting Star grips.

Shiny, beautiful and effective. Oh, she's going to need a floral carved Tom Threeperson's style holster from El Paso Saddlery to carry it.
