6 to one, half a dozen to another. I carried both the M16A1 and M16A2 while in the service and own an AR15 and the only time I have had any problems with carbon buildup in the receiver was when using blanks during training exercises. I have carried both versions of the M16 in combat where you don't always have a chance to clean your weapon as needed without any ill effects.

My LMT Piston doesn't lock me into either DI or Piston as I can switch back and forth easily. Change barrel and BCG. That's it!!
