I just moved to the Manassas area in Virginia, and I've located a nice indoor handgun range in Woodbridge. Now I'm wondering where to go to shoot rifle. Can anyone lead me to a gun club that has outdoor rifle and pistol ranges? I typically shoot EBRs(evil black rifles) and am not into skeet (unfortunately, most of the gun clubs I've found seem to be shotgun oriented).

I'm a hand loader, so I'm looking for a bench rest capability and a 200 - 400 yd. range. I also enjoy action pistol and 3 gun matches (but I'm not into the cowboy/single action stuff).

Any advice??

I too live in Manassas, and as of yet I have not found any public 200-400 yard ranges, Clark Brothers in Opal has a 100 yard range, but you have to buy their ammo, The Izaak Walton League and the NRA both have 100 yard ranges, and Shooters Paradise in Chantilly has a 25 yard indoor range. Feel free to PM me if you would like directions to any of the above stated ranges

its a bit of a drive, but its hard to beat the AGC range in Marriotsville MD near Balmer

AGC Range Facilities

The AGC range facilities, located at the junction of Marriottsville Road and Wards Chapel Road in northwest Baltimore county (see Directions and Map), offer all Clubs' members, their families and guests a safe, maintained, and clean location to learn about, participate in, and enjoy the shooting sports year round. The AGC range facilities offer:

* A fifty point outdoor pistol range with covered firing line – firing at twenty five and fifty yards – equipped to handle NRA conventional pistol match competitions;

* A one hundred point outdoor, lighted, benchrest equipped range with covered firing line – firing at 25, 50, 75, and 100 yards;

* A ten point outdoor high power rifle range with covered firing line – firing at 200 yards – with military-style target frames and equipped to handle national match events;

* A four field, lighted, outdoor trap range with automatic and manual trap houses, as well as two portable Lincoln trap throwers;

* Messick Hall (located adjacent to the trap range) clubhouse/meeting hall, with kitchen and restrooms – used by many clubs for monthly meetings and social events; also used for indoor air rifle training for Juniors' Programs;

* Lower range house/meeting hall – with kitchen and restrooms (located at the 100 yard Barnes Range).

All of the AGC ranges are operated in an absolutely safe manner through the strict enforcement of Range Rules posted throughout the facilities and which all club members (of all AGC clubs) are indoctrinated upon joining.

The AGC range facility is open seven days a week – from 8:00 A.M. until dusk on weekdays and from 10:00 A.M. until dusk on weekends.

In addition to its availability to club members for unscheduled informal trap shooting (arranged through a Range Officer), scheduled club shoots, and seasonal club trap leagues, the AGC Trap Range is also open to the general public every Sunday from 12:00 noon until 4:00 P.M., and on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. for supervised trap shooting. There is a modest fee per round of trap, covering the cost of targets and the operation and maintenance of the trap equipment (AGC club members: $2.50 per round (25 targets); non-members: $3.50 per round).

You need to stop by the NRA range in Fairfax.

It doesn't have the long distance range you're looking for, but it is a state of the art indoor facility up to 50 yards. The range has vacuum setup on each lane, so the powder and smoke never chokes you. I think you can shoot up to .375 H&H. That's pretty impressive for a indoor range. This is your best option within 1/2 hour drive. It is right off I-66, get off on the route 50 exit going east, first traffic light you make a left, follow the Natl firearms museum sign.

Once you go there, you'll love it. Also, stop by the Nat'l Firearms Museum in the adjacent bldg.

You could try Quantico Shooting Club . There's a wait list to get in, but there's pretty much everything you're looking for...

-Rifle: Range 1..50, 100 and 300yd position and benchrest (bench provided). Periodic use of range 4, with firing lines every 100 yds out to 1K.

- Pistol: indoor 12 points up to 25yds; outdoor to 25yds

-Shotgun: International/Olympic trap with covered firing points and skeet (international and American) ranges, IIRC.

Pretty active match shedule for...well just about everything.

Yea Northern Virginia isn't rich in outdoor ranges. After quite a long wait, I finally made it into the Fairfax Rod & Gun Club in Manassas, Virginia. The pictures of the ranges are alittle outdated. All the handgun and rifle ranges have been renovated and new baffles added to prevent any rounds from leaving the range.

If you haven't done so, check out a thread in the General Section announcing a Northern Virginia shoot.

Bull Run is a shotgun range we like to go to. If you don't have your own shotgun, you can rent one for about $5-6.

Welcome to Virginia.

In addition to the ones mentioned above, there are a couple of Izaak Walton League ranges, and that's it for NoVa. This linked map shows their locations.

I was a member for three or four years at the Alexandria Chapter, whose range is significantly south of Alexandria, about 10 miles west of I-95 through Garrisonville.

The facilities are basic, a hundred yard rifle range and one pistol range adjacent to the rifle range, plus a grassy field for shotguns. Bring your own birds, bird-throwers, target frames, and "hangers" (to hang your pistol targets from cables). It's pretty inexpensive, though, at around $75 per year.

It was fine for my purposes, but we moved, and it became too far to drive to it.
