Places to shoot (NoVA)

Howdy, folks,

I just got back from the range and I can't use over 3/4 of my ammo at my current range. This makes me mad. I'm moving to NC but I'm making a visit to my inlaws for about a month in Northern VA (Woodbridge and willing to travel). Is there a place I can shoot in NoVa for not too much with steel cased and/or steel core ammo? I'd prefer outdoor but indoor will work (though the wife will be dissappointed).

There is Clarke Brothers in Warrenton. It is outdoors, free but you have to buy their ammo. Not a bad place, but it is about an hour away from me and I prefer to shoot at home. http://www.clarkbrosguns.com/home.html

There are 3 indoor ranges open to the public in Northern Virginia:
(1) Gilberts Small Arms Range in Newington, just off I-95
(2) Blue Ridge Arsenal in Chantilly, just off Rte. 50
(3) The NRA range at the NRA building in Fairfax.

I don't believe that any of these three ranges permit you to shoot steel-core ammunition. It's too hard on the backstops.

How's about outdoor? My wife wants to shoot too and she can't shoot on indoor ranges (lead concerns/Dr's Orders/Preggo).

The only one I know of thats outdoors is Clarke Brothers. They have pistol, rifle and shotgun. And I don't believe they have ammo restrictions, but it has been awhile since I've been there so I don't remember. Range is free, but you have to buy their ammo.

There are several other ranges but they are mainly indoor. The few outdoors ones that there are, are either private or skeet/trap/sporting clays ranges.

there are some outdorr ranges down my way in fredericksburg one at phelps wma but i've never been don't know the rules there.

Last time I used the NRA range they didn't mind 'steel core' ammo like Wolf. Heck, sparks were flying off their backstop something fierce and none of the RO's made comment. 50 yards too.

Or, come out to Gore VA to an outdoor range where you can shoot ANYTHING...at anything. No, seriously.

The Cove campground is pretty far from woodbridge.

For occasional shootiing, I'd recommend the NRA HQ range. Only problem with that range is that there is often a long wait (over an hour at popular times).

If you want a private event, you can contact me regarding getting the Team Ruthless Range in Culpeper, VA. As long as one of our RO's is present, you can do just about anything so long as safety is maintained and all rounds hit the berm.
