At the range today in addition to shooting my Walker, I shot my Lyman Plains Pistol.
The first three I ran were 50 gr Swiss and a .54 PRB. Due to the slowness of loading I just kept adding KY windage and it just kept getting better.
The second target was with 300 gr Lee Real conicals and 50 gr of Swiss fff. The snort went up to about like a full house .44 mag but the accuracy was there. Again I just kept adding Ky windage and it got real good.
At this point the adrenaline is mixing real good with the expresso and I load up 60 gr Swiss fff and a 405 gr conical. When I light this thing up it's like a 3" Lew Horton .44 with 300 gr Buffalo Bore bullets. I drop three of these with the same POA and get a 1 1/4" group at 25 yards. For the fourth shot I add some KY windage and place about 1" from dead center. The .405 target is shot over a Walker cylinder. There are 3 Walkers on the right and one right in the center of the 3 shot .405 group.
At this point I drop back to 50 gr and try the Plains Pistol and the Walker at 50 yds. My accuracy is **** so I quit. After shooting the 405 gr. load the 50 gr load with the PRB feels like a .38 special!
The fourth picture shows a penny, a 300 gr .44 mag, a 405 gr conical, a 300 Lee Real bullet, and a .54 225 gr cast round ball.
Questions:
1. Has anyone put some decent sights on a Plains Pistol (Seems like TC sights could be adapted with a little drilling and taping).
2. How about a Lyman Hunter barrel bobbed to 14 - 16" and re crowned for a massive hunting pistol?
3. How hard would it be to fab a Parrot or Patriot grip for a Plains Pistol?
4. Get the dart gun Higene's going off the deep end again - yes/no?
