http://www.wtsp.com/news/watercoole...ccidentally-shoots-off-his-penis-and-testicle

A teenager is recovering after police say he shot himself in the penis and testicle while cleaning a gun he just bought.

It happened Thursday morning at a home on the 200 block of Verada Street in Port St. Lucie.

Police say 18-year-old Michael Smeriglio first lied to police saying someone shot him while he was walking down the street. After being questioned by police he admitted to accidentally doing it himself.

Doctors say the bullet went through his penis, his left testicle and then lodged itself in his thigh.

Smeriglio told police he bought the gun last month at a party.

Another "gun cleaning" accident, eh? Yeah, I always point the gun at my nuts, loaded, while cleaning it.

He was holstering mexican style and shot himself.

"Cleaning the gun" while shooting yourself is getting boring to read. We need a new BS excuse to put in the news articles. I can't think of anything right now but someone more creative than me should. "I was playing russian roulette with my dog" would be more entertaining for starters.

This is what happens when you try and turn your underwear into a twofer holster...

Agreed

He was carrying the pistol 'gangster' style.

That would account for the angle of the shot.

And if you dont clear a firearm [ any and all ] at least 3 [ THREE ] times prior to cleaning = your a dolt.

Real shooters and responsible people clear a firearm any and all times it enters or leaves their hand.

And yes I do so even if standing in front of the person to whom it if received and handed = no matter how many times that happens.

I'm going to go with ny32182 on this one and say that it seems more likely he was trying mexican carry and learned why it's a really bad idea. That would also explain why he initial lied to police and said someone shot him. There's no reason not to admit you accidentally shot yourself, but there's certainly great incentive to lie about concealed carrying without a permit (which I'm going to guess is what happened here).

Darwinism..... We don't need thugs on our side of the gun rights issue. They only do dumb things like this and it backfires on us.

The likely reason he initially lied to the police is that he was a TEENAGER in posession of a handgun.

He could legally possess the handgun (baring being a prohibited person) but could not carry it.

Also agree he was most likely trying to be gangster after seeing the picture the newspaper showed of him.

A rather costly way to learn a lesson

I know, right? If he had borrowed the gun instead of bought it, he would have learned the lesson for free...
