Man Kills Neighbor While Cleaning Rifle

What moron doesn't obey the 4 basic rules of gun safety?
A big moron?

If I accidentally shot a gun into my neighbors house, I'd go over to check on them.
Kinda hard for the guy to answer the door...

Who buys an AR for home defense if you live in an apartment?
See first reply above.

what kind of training/instruction did he receive when he bought the rifle?
Umm, probably NONE.
There is no training requirement when buying a firearm in most states, nor do many shops go over the gun with a potential customer. A lot of shops may not even know much about their own merchandise.

A merchant I know doesn't let a gun outside the door without demonstrating the firearm... like how to use it, safety features, takedown procedures, reassembly, etc, unless he's seen that customer buy a gun just like it. It's just the way he does business, and I kinda like that. It's too bad more don't assume that responsibility.

"I stayed up all night just thinking about my friend,"
After shooting his friend, he ran to his brother's house for the night. Long enough to sober up, I imagine. Similar to a time gap at Chappiquiddick (sp?) some years ago.

Regards.

The sad fact is that for every time something bad happens by someone being irresponsible (not necessarily a moron), the American people see this a reason for the gov't to take away firearms. However, how many times have weapons been used to save innocent lives??? How many times have people been defended or criminals been detained by use of a firearm?

The 'Gent in the apartment may have been one of the many uninformed that think "any" weapon will do for self defense in a home/apartment. We have to realize that only informed people like us understand that the ballistics of certain ammo types pierce through walls and could hurt others. He may not have had the "experience" that many of us vets have. Either way, yes, he should have been more careful. Yes, he makes us look like fools. DEFINATELY "YES" he should have checked on his neighbor (that makes him a jerk for not checking). But remember, for every "bad apple," there are 1,000s of informed, responsible gun owners out there.

"But he said he has a plan to avoid another tragedy.
"Get rid of (the rifle)," he said
Well, my dad died in a car wreck, guess I'll get rid of my car. :banghead: This guy's a genius.
Yeah he was probably doing something along the lines of "Say hello to my little friend!" and POP. I wonder if there were actually cleaning supplies out and around. I just recently found out that my greatgrandfather's "cleaning accident" was a suicide. I guess it's just easier to tell the kids that it was an accident.

"What moron doesn't obey the 4 basic rules of gun safety?"

The vast majority of gun owners in this nation. We here that care about this subject are not the problem. It is the people who buy guns and don't care to learn a thing about them that are the problem.

Ever go to the indoor range on a Saturday afternoon? I won't go anymore... bunch of morons demonstrating exactly how NOT to handle a gun.

I live in an apartment too, and when I set down any loaded gun in my apartment I angle it in such a way so that even if an evil gnome jumped on it and made it fire when I wasn't handling it, the round would end up outside rather than going into one of my neighbor's apartments.

And cleaning a loaded gun....I hope this guy does hard time. Last year a seasoned SWAT member was cleaning his HK with another officer...his LOADED HK with the SAFETY OFF. His grip slipped, he tried to catch it so it didn't hit the ground, he nailed the trigger and killed the other officer. No criminal charges were filed, which is a damn shame.
