My cousin just showed me a Webley that he knows nothing about, and I don't know much more. Can someone help ID and give a rough idea of the value?

It's a 'snubnose' revolver, I don't know the actual barrel length, probably about 3 inches. It's got the single action loading gate on the right side.

On the left side it says: Webley's over a picture of hands in handcuffs, and under the picture it says M.P.
The right side says: Police 656
The top strap reads: P. Webley & Sons
London and Birmingham

Apparently it's a Webley Police 656, but I can't find anything about this revolver. Any help or links will be appreciated.
Thanks,
RT

No pics, sorry. It's a non-fluted cylinder. The caliber's not listed on the revolver, but it could be .455, just as a guess. It appears to be in that area, and the cylinder's relatively short.
Thanks,
RT

Probably .450 Boxer Caliber.
The Numbers may be a Police Precent or district rather than a model number.

Sounds like the Royal Irish Constabulary RIC type pistol, though I think those were marked as such if issued to the RIC.
Check the Chambers, some pistols of this general type were rechambered to use the .45 ACP or Autorim cartridges when imported in the 60's.

It's a Webley Metropolitan Police ("M.P."), and should be in .450 Revolver (the calibre should be stamped on the frame near the barrel); the "656" is just an issue number, showing it was the #656 revolver that the issuing department had bought, but there should also be a regular serial number visible on the frame as well.

You guys are right, there is a 450 stamped on the frame. Sorry I missed that. There's also a S/N, but I just didn't list that as I didn't think it would help with identification.

Anybody got a wild guess what it's worth?
Thanks,
RT

Can't really say but I expect these are more rare in the US than the RIC marked guns, and therefor more valuable, those RIC guns were imported in bulk during the 60's though its possible an MP or two were mixed into those shipments.

You'll also find Belgian made RIC guns but those are of no importance here.

If the gun has not been rechambered its worth more of course. You may even be able to find .450 cartridges for it.
That was a very low powered round for its caliber and I've run across mention of Colt Peacemakers special ordered in that caliber.

Thanks Roswell, I'll keep looking for something definitive, I guess. Surely there's a Webley forum somewhere. I haven't found it yet, but I'll keep looking. I'll also check Gunbroker. I doubt one will come up, but that will give the true market value.
Thanks a bunch,
RT
