I'm in the market for an all steel, slim grip, 9mm and up semi-auto that doesn't have any unecessary features like loaded chamber indicators, magazine disconnects, and integral trigger locks.

Also, disqualified from my search are polymer and aluminum framed guns. The little red paint on the extractor would not disqualify though.

It has to have 8+ capacity, be of reputable manufacture, and CA legal in current production.

Thanks for your help. Only thing that comes to mind doesn't even exist it, which is the P229ST, but that isn't all that slim. How's the Kahr T9? I'd prefer 10 round slim grip though.

You could try to find a Unicorn. It's a mythical beast. Sort of like the gun you are describing. Seriously -- all teasing aside -- have a look at the CA gun laws (if you have not done so already). It is my understanding that many of those features are required for handguns sold in this lovely State of ours.

Though --- as it was mentioned earlier -- the Sig p239 MAY fit the bill. Good luck.

1911A1

I never thought I would recommend one but after detail striping my Sistema 1911, It can not be beat easily 'cept by a S&W K frame

Or BHP, I do not have one but would like one. get some preban full cap mags and you could have as many as 17 + 1 in it.
The Argentine FM is an excellent copy. and can be found for $300 to $400

You need to seriously look at previously owned pistols on consignment. Otherwise all those rules kick in. IIRC, loaded chamber/mag disconnect law starts 01/01/05.

I vote for the Browning P35, though it has had a magazine disconnect most of the time since the 1930's when it was introduced. The good news is it's easy to remove.

try a beretta cougar..

CA legal..comes in 9/45/357..all steel slide..alloy frame..comes in full & mini and one size in between the "L" model..

I'd like something that isn't SAO, DA/SA would be good.

I guess I'd be okay with aluminum frames, since almost all semi-autos seem to be of aluminum frame now.

The BHP are nice, all steel, but it's SAO and has a mag disconnect, which I've heard if it's removed would cause the trigger to be spongy feeling.

I think that I'd be okay if it's not that slim, but I want 10 rd. capacity.

If you had a choice, aluminum frame or polymer frame, which would you choose and why?

I'm anxious to see how a new slimline 9mm Glock would be like and the P229ST. But out of the bunch I have to choose from and fit my criteria, it seems like slim pickins.

The first thing that came to mind was the P7M8 :D All steel, no unnecessary do-hickies & a great gun to shoot ;) Merry Christmas!

Also have to agree with the P7M8. Also it is one very fine combat auto.

The answer to your question is the Kahr T9. I mean that literally; it may be the only current production gun out there that comes close to meeting your stated critera. At least for under the $1,000+ it would cost to get a P7M8.

The BHP are nice, all steel, but it's SAO and has a mag disconnect, which I've heard if it's removed would cause the trigger to be spongy feeling.

Listen to smarter people. :) The exact opposite is true; people remove the mag disconnect to make the trigger better and less spongy.

Speaking of which, it is obvious that people here often do not even bother to read the critera of the poster on these kinds of topics, and simply post their favorite gun. Double-stack CZs and BHPs hardly qualify as "slim grips," for instance, and a bunch of people offered up aluminum-frame guns when the guy said "no aluminum." :p

Sean Smith, putting aside my CZ plug - you are right! The T-9 does come closest to meeting this guys requirements. Very fine firearm . . . . . . It just never seemed to "take off" so-to-speak.

Thanks - I got here from czforum.com Many of those guys also participate here.

This is a good forum, but if you don't check back rather regularly, you'll fall behind pretty quick!

BTW, I'm in the Poconos around the Scranton area.:D

If you have the cash, and you can live with a total 8 round capacity, look at the single stack line of pistols from Para-Ordnance in the LDA format. They are stainless steel, with a frame mounted safety that disconnects the trigger, making the likelihood of an ND during reholstering. the trigger pull is so smooth and so light as to be almost unbelievable. They are not cheap or light weight, and they do get a bit uncomfortable after carrying for extended periods of time. but they are slim enough to conceal under a T shirt and shorts, and although benign neglect will induce rust. MINIMAL care will yield a long term investment in safety and reliability.

The CZ Compact would do you nicely, the Kahr is another Stellar recommendation, a S&W 3913 would do you way way nice also.

Look at any/all of them if you can and shoot them..................

Shoot well.........

I realized that the Kahr's are all striker fired and DAO which I don't like. I like TDA (DA/SA) hammer fired pistols. So that also rules out BHP, 1911s, Glocks.

This REALLY narrows down my choices now.

P239, P229, or Beretta 92FS (and it's other variants) though none seem to have the mystique of the original 92FS. Any reviews on the Vertec, I might put up with the boxy lines and rail that I'll never use for the smaller grip in the Vertec.

I'll probably never get a P226 because of the 10 round limit here in CA even if AW ban sunsets, CA still has one, so I might as well get something that fits my hand better like the 228/229 series and still have the same round capacity.
