My current collection includes a yugoslavian sks and a 10/22 for cheap shooting. The sks is fun for iron sights mid-range shooting, but not very accurate. I'm looking for a good-sized centerfire cartridge for longer ranges and something that I could put a scope on. Remmington 700? idk. I'm going to a gun show soon any tips? Please Help!!!

This just about the perfect time to buy a used deer rifle which I think would suit your needs. Look at gunstore trade ins. I won't try to pick a brand for you but there are plenty of good ones. A 700 would be fine. I bought a Walnut Model 70 for $300 a few years ago about this time. Have fun shopping.

take it from an older guy, the best caliber is the 30-06 (or 308 win). unless you are going to go shooting some kind of dangerous game and NEED a magnum (which i have several of), most of the time, the 30-06 will do ANYTHING one of the magnums will do (unless by long range you are actually talking OVER 400 yards), with less recoil and way cheaper shooting costs! a remington 700 is a great rifle. if you find one in 30-06 at a decent price it would be hard to go wrong!
