Just bought a Mini-14 & I'm looking for some 20 round magazines for it. It came W/ a 20 round factory mag & the standard five rounder. I seem to rember a company called "Eagle Magazines" that made good mags in the mid 90s.

Any other suggestions?

Well, I've heard people badmouth them, but the Promags from CTD have worked well for me.

The folks at perfectunion.com rate the Pro-Mag as the best of the after market mags. Thats the steel mags by the way.

They are cheaper at Academy Sports than CTD by about a buck and a half.

I hope they work. I bought 3 but haven't tried them yet.

Ruger factory (although pricey) 20 rounders are the best, bar none. If Ruger would sell them to the peasants reasonably, their Mini 14 sales would dramatically increase..

I have a couple of John Masen 20-round mags and they work well in my Mini-14. I did have to straighten one of the feed lips on one mag (may have been banged up in a shipping box) but no problems in feeding.

ProMag is supposed to be a good brand and I though I had read somewhere that ProMag did the manufacturing for Ruger for both the Mini-14 and Mini-30.

Now that Ruger has built the NRA special version and added two 20-round mags with that rifle, it may be that factory 20-round mags may show up in the catalog one day.

The Pro- Mag thing is weird to me. I posted a thread about a month ago asking about Pro-Mag magazines for a PC-4 (Ruger) and the response I got was 3 maybe 4 PAGES of " Pro-Mags suck , don't buy them" so why are they ok for one kind of rifle but not another?

one Ruger mag is worth two after market lemons.

1 Ruger 20 rd mag = $49.95 + shipping from CTD
1 ProMag 20 rd mag = $9.97 + shipping from CTD

So they better be worth four, or it's a false economy. ;)

If you spend enough time & money on Mini 14 mags, and you ignore the odd, rare, what-a-bargain-I-found aftermarket mag success story, you'll discover what everyone else eventually decides. The only mag truly worth the money is the one that runs the best. That's gonna' be the factory Ruger 20 rd. mag. If you like to cuss, stomp & throw things...then go ahead & try to save a few bucks. If shooting is your goal, then spend $40 a pop & spare yourself the aggravation.

www.cheaperthandirt.com has the factorys for sale in their latest flyer 40$. Back when the ban was still on I paid 125.00$ for one. I've tried the ones from Bushmaster, didn't work I tried Pro Mag didn't work. Got fed up and bought that factory it works! period all bullets all brass 1st shot last shot IT WORKS!

I had about a dozen of the cheap ones lying around ,you can't sell them at the gun shows now 'cause all the Mini owners have wised up, and I really wouldn't pawn them off on some gut that didn't know the difference,(like some one did to me).

I bought the factory 5 round cut the 30 rd cheapies off and silver soldered the factory 5 rnds on to the cheapie bottoms THEY WORK 1st rnd last rnd any ammo any bullet.
Save yourself some flustration and buy the factorys if ya got the bucks, or if you handy build you some!
