I just recently picked up my first Remington 700. I opted for a bone-stock 20" AAC-SD in .308. Already have a 762-SDN-6 for it, as well as everything I need to start handloading .308.

And I also have a scope for it. I plan to use a Vortex Viper HS 4-16x 44mm with a 30mm tube. I don't have a specific use for the gun and I'm not quite sure the range I'll be shooting it either. I'm assuming mostly 200-400 yards. I'd be hard pressed to find places to shoot farther than 400 yards around here anyway.

I don't know what's good and what isn't in the way of bases and rings. I generally don't mind spending a bit more to get nicer stuff either. So, I'm open to suggestions.

I also don't know if I even need to worry about an offset base with the scope that I have and the range that I'm shooting. And I also like the idea of a single piece mount VS a pair of rings - but like I said, I'm open to suggestions.

That package looks nice, just be sure to bed the rail on the rifle. I have never found a Remington 700 action that was true when putting a rail on. Also keep in mind that the higher you mount the optic, the higher you will have to raise the cheek rest to get a good cheek weld. Good luck

You do not need an off-set base for shooting 400 yards max range.

In fact, you don't want one at all for that.

Here in Kansas, a 3-9x scope kills crows and coyotes out to 400+ in standard rings & bases.

If you're just going to mount the scope on the one rifle, I'd go with the DNZ linked above and spend the difference from the LaRue on a better scope. Not that there's anything wrong with that scope or the LaRue products.

I have used DNZ and they were quite nice. But, you might really want to consider Burris Zee rings. They have floating inserts that self align, and also don't leave ring marks when the scope is removed.

Whoa, I forgot about this thread. Didn't think anybody was going to reply after a week.

I ended up going with Badger stuff. They talked me into a 20 MOA cant base (306-06). Mostly because 'zero cant' was out of stock, but also because a 20 MOA cant won't affect a 100-yard zero and will extend my range as well. They also recommended the standard steel rings (.823" tall). That puts the bottom of the scope tube about .544" above the receiver, which happens to perfect for me. Ordered everything from Triad and got it in last week.

Badger makes good stuff. Nightforce is worth a look too.

Excellent setup there. You will like it, and that scope should do great too.

Nothing wrong with the 20 MOA cant. Any decent scope will be able to handle it and get you zeroed at 100.

Weaver rings and bases

They worked fine before tactical was invented.
Weavers have been holding up on scopes that are mounted on .45 ACP bullseye guns before most of the current crop of scope rings were thought about.
