Please recommend a Timer -

I'm wanting to get a timer to use when practicing. Any recommendations?

Features I want:

Random start - I want to be able to push start, and then have a buzzer go off at a random time to start the timing

Memory
Time to first shot, total time, shot splits, etc

The CEDs have the advantage of a ten-string memory. Shoot the same drill ten times and then review to see if you are consistent on something you know or are getting better with practice on something new.

I have a ced but i really like the pact timers. their beep sounds better

I like the pact timers for practice, everything is right on the (easy to read) display and it's a one (big) button start. For RO'ing I like the CED 8000 because they have memory and the ability to display remotely (so the SO doesn't have to chase you everywhere). FWIW I don’t like the CED 7000 for it’s built in batteries and the fact that, although handy in size, the display is like looking at a wrist watch (had one traded it off). If for some reason I’m having trouble picking up shots (or echoes tripping the timer) I prefer the r-u-ready timers (they work without adjusting all the time every time). The pocket pro from competition electronics is another I dislike as the only thing it displays (without hitting other buttons) is the total time and I like to know every time that the number of shots (thus time) is correct.

I have a Competition Electronics pocket pro II here is info on it... I like it...

* Review four shots at a time with shot numbers, times & splits.

* 3 types of main screens selectable:
A) Old Pocket Pro emulation (single number & battery indication)
B) Shot time with shot number, split, 1st shot time, start delay type, time, date & battery condition
C) Rounds per minute with number of shots, split, 1st shot time, start delay type, time, date & battery condition

* Set shot dead time to eliminate echoes

* Digital shot sensitivity adjustment

* Random start delay minimum and maximums are settable between .5 & 9.9 seconds. Default is minimum 1 second and maximum of 4 seconds per USPSA. Setting min. and max. the same gives a fixed start delay.

I have the PACT timer (older model) and really like it. If I were to buy another I would probably opt for the CED only because their more compact.

+1 Pocket Pro II

The Pocket Pro had a design flaw with the Battery. I don't know how many times I've had to solder the connection.

The Pocket Pro II fixes that and has better overall features.

The Pact timers are quite good also.
