PLEASE SIGN WHITE HOUSE PETITION saying NO to AWB

Could somebody tell whoever it is that launched the petition to clean up the grammar and spelling? It's making us look pretty dumb.

Summary of proposed AWBII, and petition

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/pe...-feinstein-violating-her-oath-office/xhDvzZLM

I wasn't entirely sure about signing it...till I also saw exactly what she proposes!

http://www.feinstein.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/assault-weapons
Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of:
120 specifically-named firearms
Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one military characteristic
Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds
Strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and various state bans by:
Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test
Eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test
Banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons” to address attempts to “work around” prior bans
Bans large-capacity ammunition feeding devices capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.
Protects [Yeah, RIGHT! - GL] legitimate hunters and the rights of existing gun owners by:
Grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment
Exempting over 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes and
Exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons
Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include:
Background check of owner and any transferee;
Type and serial number of the firearm;
Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration

several variants of 'hunting' shotguns have started to incorporate thumbhole/pistol grip stocks for better ergonomcs while seated/crouching during turkey HUNTING;

the background checks and weapons registration allows them to build a database that informs them who owns what and where they are...convenient for future confiscations!

I really love that they DECIDE what an assault weapon is by THEIR definition (and that definintion will change as time goes on to include more and more SPORTING/HUNTING type firearms)

It appears many people don't understand what the whitehouse.gov petitions are intended to accomplish.

If a petition gets enough support, White House staff will review it, ensure it’s sent to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response.

This doesn't do anything more than bring an issue to the attention of the White House staff.
Bringing issues to their attention that they already are aware of isn't accomplishing anything. Petitions have to be focused on the Office of the President and can't be on things they President can't do. Keep them simple like "Commit to vetoing any AWB such as the Feinstein proposed AWB" and try not to dilute the effort by creating or signing a bunch of these. The only value in the whitehouse.gov petitions is to build one of the petitions as big as possible so the White House staffer reporting on the petitions sees 20 MILLION signatures on one telling the President to veto any AWB.

In dealing with the Feinstein AWB the petition should be to ask the President to promise to veto the Feinstein proposed AWB as published because it is both unworkable (semiautomatic rifles can't be added to the category 2 of the NFA without amending the National Firearms Act), incorrect (AR type rifles are the fastest growing sporting use firearm in the hunting and competition sports) and unconstitutional in the face of SCOTUS confirmation of the individual nature of the 2A. It also ignores the root cause of mass murders and does not offer a practicable solution to keeping the few criminally insane who misused these firearms without treating all 221,000,000 adults in this country as if they were also criminally insane. There's a broader "No AWB" petition that has garnered the needed signatures, but more is better in this sense.

We should also send similar short pleas to our elected officials at the local, state and congressional level. Each letter/email sent to each and every one of them has a multiplying effect. Just signing the petition and thinking you've done your part is dead wrong. The least we can do is tell every one of our elected officials that we do not want them to support an AWB and that the lessons learned from the former AWB should be taken to heart if they want to get through their next election cycle and return to their offices.

I think a lot of folks who own pistols and shotguns are going to be surprised to learn they are "assault weapons".

I also note beyond a NFA 1934 style registry that we would not be able to transfer these items. Forget passing to your kids or selling them. Get involved gang. As HSO said make your voice heard in Washington DC and if you are not a member of NRA or GOA its a good time to rectify that.

Oppose any new anti-gun legislation...and do it NOW!

Fellow highroad friends, I urge you to contact your state representatives to voice your opposition to any proposed gun bans that are being drafted up in the wake of the terrible tragedy at Sandy Hook. Anti-gun politicians and the national media are using this tragedy to try to get new legislation passed to take more rights away from law abiding gun owners. This new legislation will do nothing to reduce or prevent gun violence just as the “Assault Weapons” Ban of 1994 did nothing to reduce or prevent gun violence.
You must write your state representatives to be heard. Don’t wait, please do this now. Call them, e-mail them, or even write them physical letters voicing your opposition. They represent YOU as your elected officials. Millions of letters and calls cannot go ignored. Also write President Barack Obama. Yes he's anti gun but write him anyway. He needs to hear us regardless of his stance.
Please, be respectful but firm in your unwavering support of the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. And let them know you will NOT support anyone who votes for more gun control legislation.
Please click on this very helpful NRA link that will give you all of the contact information for your state representatives:

http://www.nraila.org/get-involved-locally/grassroots/write-your-reps.aspx

And while you are on the NRA site, if you are not yet a member, please join. All gun owners must unite right now. And we need to support the NRA in this fight.
This is what we are up against:

Thank you!

I signed it, but got a canned response thanking me for supporting "common sense gun laws." :scrutiny:

"You keep using that petition. I do not think it means what you think it means." with apologies to Inigo Montoya.

More importantly we really need to inform the public of what Feinstein is trying to do. People think she is only trying to ban "high capacity magazines" and "weapons of war". They don't realize the breadth and scope of what this AWB attempts to do. I have SIX weapons I would be required to register and tax under this law. This is a major gun grab that will effect millions. If this passes there is one party and many from the other I will vote against for LIFE.

This is my first post here, but I've been reading for some time.

I created a petition that specifically targets Sen. Feinstein's bill. The NRA's website has a good summary of what the bill would cover.

Basically, anything semi-auto or with a detachable magazine would require NFA like registration, a $200 per weapon tax, and forfeiture upon the owner's death. All sales and transfers, including transfers of current NFA items, would be illegal.

If you like how I worded the petition, I urge you to sign it or create something better and promote it.

xman1337 - I applaud your efforts at creating a petition specifically in opposition of Feinstein's upcoming proposed legislation.

Having said that, I didn't sign your petition because I disagree with the wording. When you say that her proposal "goes too far," that is essentially the same thing as saying that if she backs off to only a few of her criteria, that will be good enough. But that won't be good enough.

Any restrictions on guns, be it 1 gun or the 120 that she mentions in her outline, is too many. Any of her requirements for registration, fingerprinting, not being able to transfer our property as we see fit (in accordance with the law) are unnacceptable.

The only gun related actions I'd support are those that would allow teachers to become trained and carry at work if they choose to (or allow other school staff, volunteers, or National Guardsmen/reservists to provide some measure of armed security), or those that are specifically targeted at keeping guns out of the hands of criminals or the mentally insane.

Also, I suspect that regardless of what petition any of us create, we will end up with the same response that has been showing up expressing the virtues of expanded gun control. I have read somewhere that the Administration has said they received 400,000 signatures supporting expanded gun control, but I suspect that at least half of those signatures are from pro-gun petitions that are getting this cookie-cutter answer and just being added into the final tally.
