another person, you've got several semi-autos listed, maybe you'd consider a bolt action? There are any number of milsurp bolt actions for less than $400, maybe some used ones in more modern flavors.

If you're set on semi-auto and are planning on replacing your SKS, I'd suggest a SAR1. If you're going to keep the SKS, maybe a SAR3. There's one on Gunbroker this minute with Weiger mags (which feed better than any in that rifle) for $435.

siaga, or maybe a saiga, even a Saiga. i have two of them, and will never sell them. You can routinely get them for under 300 . If you get the 308, trust me,get it converted with a trigger job, because the one that comes with, totally bites. The diff with Saiga, as compared to other ak type rifles, is simple. They make a far superior bbl, which gives them far superior accuracy, on par with bolties and ar's easily.

FAL's and their ilk start at about $700.00 and thats for one you'd need to put together yourself. That includes the CETME, G3 etc. I'll add fuel to the fire and confirm the Mini 14 & 30's are expensive, inaccurate, and hugely expensive to refine. If you want an M1A you'd spend more on the Mini 14 getting it to shoot as well plus you'd void Ruger's warranty. Might I suggest the Remington 7400? Although it's not high capacity it shoots well by all accounts plus you can get it in .223 or .308. Be warned the 7400 isn't tacticool by any stretch but I tremendously enjoyed one I shot some time ago.
