Pocket carry

There is one MAJOR disadvantage to pocket carry, however.

Like most other posters here, I pocket carry, typically an M&P340 in a right front pocket. I've even adopted a kind of 'habitual' hands-in-pocket stance...

But, I also typically wear an 'outergarment' when I go out, and I now have a habit of shifting that carry gun from my right-front pocket to an inside / vest pocket for driving. It's just another variant on pocket carry; I don't use an underarm rig (yet).

If you ever want access to your carry gun now when you're driving and seat-belted, that kind of change is worthwhile. In fact, it might have saved my bacon within the last month, in the only direct threat I have had.

The problem I've found with pocket carrying my P11 or any other small semi-auto, is not the size, but the shape. The square blocky form of an autoloader in a pair of jeans is ridiculous, and even in a pair of khakis, looks like you've got a book in your pocket. A J-Frame on the other hand just seems to disappear in a pair of khakis, and even in a pair of jeans, pretty much blends in.

I'd like to be able to pocket carry my 9MM but it just doesn't work.

So I was just wondering if I was the only one who is in love with pocket carry or are their others out there.

Nope ... my daily carry is an NAA BlackWidow in 22mag in my right front pocket. Howerver, I -do- use a holster, and I feel you really should for pocket carry. Also, don't carry -anything- else in that pocket.

I pocket carry 2 different baby Glocks a 26 and 27 in a uncle mikes pocket holster. I even pocket carry when I'm out for a jog. I love pocket carry and it's about the only way I tote now except in the winter when wearing a jacket I might use my Galco shoulder rig or IWB holster. I personally won't carry anything smaller than a 9mm ever.

Holy cow. Do you have a pocket holster for that? Aren't you worried you'll brush against something and set that puppy off? I can't imagine carrying a safety-less double action without a full trigger guard in an open pocket or soft holster.

my cure to pocket carry when driving is...I mounted a holster to the steering colume on my DD Cruiser.....and leave a Bodyguard in it(cant even see it) and will toss in the glove box when I leave the rig

also next to me is my man bag, with a HK USPc 45 with a Rosen shoulder rig and a S&W 19 2.5", hiddin(would never find them, but easy acress for me) in the back is a M37 shotgun, beater S&W M13 and lots of ammo, along with a ballistic vest, about 1/2 the time I have a better AR M4 as well......OK, I know I have issues but have had WAY to much "wierd" stuff happen to me over the years.

I pocket carry a Kahr MK40... we don't need no stinkin' mouseguns here :neener:

When I'm driving, I have a secondary holster mounted in the center console that will accept the entire pistol-and-pocket-holster:

Pocket carry seecamp always or m@p c 40sw .I have big pockets size 46 :D

My primary method of carry has been in the pocket for at least 10 years. Even if I'm carrying a larger gun OWB, there's a snubby .38 (or recently, a Ruger LCP) in my trouser or vest pocket.
If I'm driving, the revolver (and holster) is wedged between the driver's seat and console. If it's the LCP in my vest, there's easy access.

I'm not a heavy guy, so finding a way to carry concealed was problematic for me in this hot climate where wearing a jacket or vest is pretty much out of the question.

I'm having great success carrying my S&W 637 in my front pocket holster. I keep it loaded with Critical Defense +P and figure that will be good enough. With CT laser grips, it is easy to aim quickly and accurately from almost any conceivable position, including a "defensive" close to body position. And I have a speed reloader strip handy just in case.

When in my vehicle, I rely on a full size Ruger Auto that I keep in a holster mounted the map pocket in the driver's side door so I don't have to be worried about drawing the revolver from my pocket.

i CC a Beretta Tomcat loaded with 7+1 60gr Silvertips if thats not enough gun then what is i dont need a .45 cuz i am an excellent shot i will make every bullet count ...i do have a 9mm but i think its a bit extreme if i am an excellent shot. those who carry mouseguns are way better shots then those who need to carry .45's why cuz they know the .32 will be good enough to stop an attacker with more then 1 shot.

Sgt Alvin York the Medal of Honor Recipant in WW1 carried a CZ in .32 caliber for protection.

I often use pocket carry, in this case a Kahr PM9 in a Mika's pocket holster.

How do you like that holster/gun combo?
How is his work?

I have considered getting one for the PM45, but I am worried it might be a little much.

It adds some size to the gun, but also breaks up its outline. Put another way, it is apparent - if you look closely - that you have something in the pocket, but it is unobtrusive and not apparent that the object is a gun. It is not much to look at compared to a molded leather holster, but is made of sturdy-appearing materials and is very well stitched. A rubber-like "friction strip" keeps the holster in the pocket. I've never pulled it out along with the gun, unlike some leather ones I've tried.

Hi tkopp,

Holy cow. Do you have a pocket holster for that? Aren't you worried you'll brush against something and set that puppy off? I can't imagine carrying a safety-less double action without a full trigger guard in an open pocket or soft holster.

Well...you answered your own question, really...

It is a Double-Action Revolver...and, it takes considerable and fairly continuous, precise-directional pressure to actuate the Mechanism through a cycle.

No...I've never worried about bumping into things and somehow having that cause the Double Action mechanism to go through a full-pull cycle.

Poket Carry in a warm clime is hard on Blued finishes of course...as is washing Cars and other things where one gets wet while carrying.

I'd done a really excellent Blue on it in 1989...and there's about no trace left now.

Lately, I've been carrying my S&W Model 36 in a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster. It's been too warm for a t-shirt AND a polo shirt and I prefer to wear a t-shirt when I carry IWB.

I've been trying to find a Kahr PM9 for a decent price -- they appear to be an ounce lighter than the 642
That's incorrect - an empty PM9 is slightly heavier (at 15.9 oz, including magazine) than an empty 642 (at 15.0 oz). When loaded, the weight difference is even greater.

I've pocket carried everyday for the last 15 years. First an AMT DAO .380, then a NAA32 Guardian, then a KT P32, and now a LCP. None of them are powerhouses but they've always been right at hand.

If I have khakis or slacks or shorts, I can carry a 642 in my front pocket quite easily. If I'm wearing jeans, I normally carry a P3AT in my back pocket. I prefer carrying the 642 & it's not noticeable. The P3AT is carried in a holster that prints just like a wallet.

I just bought a SW 642 yesterday and so far ii love havin the little fella in my front pocket.

I used to pocket carry all the time. I don't now because either my legs got thicker or my pockets shrank. Not sure which.
