Hello all,

I'm on a quest for a small gun which will be carried in my strong side front pocket. It seems that the thee choices I most often read about are:

1. J frame
2. Kahr
3. Kel-Tec

What other options should I be looking at?

Many thanks,
Brent...

Nice rigs jar...I particularly like the Alessi pocket holster...he is one of the all time greats in the business

I'd divide the "pocket gun" idea into two categories. For carry without a holster, unquestionably (I think) the way to go is a J-frame size snub-nose revolver, particularly one with a shrouded or concealed hammer. If you're going to use a pocket holster, the J-frame remains viable, but then the small pistols also become more viable. I use J-frame S&W's or Colt Cobra's for holsterless pocket carry, and add in a Kel-Tec P3AT or Kahr P9 Covert for holster pocket carry.

Seecamps are not made from plastic??? WhAT??????

how could I have been so misled??? how could I have been so foolish??? how can I get one for $20.00???:D

Colt made a handful (pocketful?) of semiauto pocket guns. Some single-action, like baby 1911s, and some DAO. My Pocket Nine falls into the latter category. I've also shot Morgan's Mustang (SA), and it was a real soft shooter for the size.

They don't make the Pocket Nine anymore; apparently it "borrowed" a bit too much from the Kahrs, sort of becoming an all-metal, still-lightweight Kahr-with-Pony...

I have been reasearching for the same carry gun. After much reading on many forums, I went with the Kahr PM9 with night sights and a FIST K5 pocket holster.

I just bought a Beretta Tomcat in stainless. 100% reliable out of the box beautiful little pocket gun and very well made. I tested it with gold dot, silvertip, and win fmj. I'm very happy with it. I also have the model 21A 22lr version of it. Very well made, very accurate. My wife has the P32 and it's reliable and thin but not a quality pistol. NAA 22mag is a good pocket bug.

Hey, something's wrong here! Everyone has bigger pockets than I do! I can't carry a 2# gun in my front pocket without discomfort and being very obvious about it. I carry the P3AT as my "always" pocket gun. Anything bigger goes on the belt.

I have several larger pistols that I love to take to the range, but my collection focused on smaller pistols a couple of years ago. I have several J-frames but the one that fits AND hides best is a model 642 "Centennial". And, like Wildalaska, I actually CARRY my Seecamp.
I have a Guardian and a RJ Hedley back pocket holster that carries well. I have a very nice K-T P-32 that has been tricked out just right, but that one doesn't get carried all that much. (More now since my wife gave me a "man-purse". :) ) It's REALLY light & thin and hides well in one of the zipper pockets. However, lately the one I've chosen for pocket OR hip carry is a Kahr PM9. It's on my hip right now. The PM9 is a little thinner and a little lighter than my Glock 27. And, being a 9MM, it's a little more powerful than a J-frame. I'm actually a little surprised at how well I like the Kahr. It (for me) is not as accurate as the Glock 27, but it doesn't need to be. Unless there's a gun on me, if the bad guy is 25 or more feet away, I'm gonna try getting away first. And that will look better in court if I DO have to shoot. However, I've heard that the fastest growing crime in Louisville is "Home Invasion". If that happens, it will (sadly) be fire until slide lock. (Like most CCW holders, I'd hate to have to shoot someone.)

The Airweight Bodyguard or Centennial J-frames are excellent.

The Keltec P32 is good for a .32, the P3AT is ok from what I've heard, as is the NAA Guardian in .32 or .380 (haven't owned one, just shot them).

I carried a J-frame for 9 months front pocket and liked it. The previous 9 months I had a P32.

Steve,
ya gotta have a big pocket...but it can be done with the right holster...I carry a Kel-tec P11 inmy pocket when I cannot carry my belt bang, bang

Ich Will:D

Another vote for Kel-Tec P-11. Mine "lives" in my front pocket. Carries comfortable....shoots comfortable. How doooo they get eleven 9 mms. into such a small package?

Whereas a .32 or .380 does beat nothing at all....

.38 special has been my bare minimum for ALONG time. Chief's Special is hard to beat, BUT...
Recently I have been shooting MiLady's new Kahr PM9...ohhhh, very nice. Eventually, I'll get one for the pocket to replace or suppliment the Jay frame that rests there now.
I have limited experience with Keltec... the 40 cal version. But if you like it, can carry it and it proves to be reliable.......whatever works for you!

Steve, it's all in having a good gun belt (yes even for pocket carry) and a good holster. Works with jeans and dress pants. It's a lot easier than many people think.

These Smith & Wesson airweight models: 37, 38, 42, 442, 638, and 642.

These old model Charter Arms: Undercover .38, and Off Duty.

All are .38 special revolvers. All have an empty weight of 16 ounces or less.

(I carry an Undercover .38 in a pocket holster in front pants pocket.)

The 642 is the ideal pocket gun. It's light and the concealed hammer make it snag free when drawing from a pocket. I carried one in the front pocket of my jeans without a holster for years. The rules under which I carry now have caused me to abandon it, but the Kel-Tec P11 I now carry is much blockier for pocket carry in jeans and is much more inconvenient to draw, and I carry it in a belt holster now.
