Holster Options For Jogging

Over the last twenty years i have been attacked a number of times by large dogs while knocking out my five mile run a boot to the dogs head or a heavy punch to the nose while running at them usually scares the sh## out of GSD,Pitbulls and rottweilers.I used to run around a "bad" neighborhood in a Large US city and had a number of "crackheads" try to hold me up for cash etc.Now im jogging im 6'2 weight 210lbs you think the crackheads might see some correlation with fit big guy at 9pm running with little effort and their sorry pitiful tweaked out asses being 'worse off' if they tried to rob me but i guess most are too fried or assume you might not be used to dealing with the scary urban badass:rolleyes: .........for special events i carry a Spyderco rescue while jogging have done for years i have pulled it twice and yes i was trained by Her Majestys Govt in the finer points of utilising a wee serated beastie.............................works for me.

A bellyband seems to be the best, I use the Desantis ..at first it was a bit uncomfortable but as the waistline decreased it rode better (hint).. A solid owb holster can work too but tends to print especially if the clothes get wet and you also feel the weight of the pistol some more.

From a safety point of view I suggest that you never jog with a loaded chamber.. just a precaution against Murphy..

The P-3AT is very light. It is also what I carry when jogging. Is imple use an uncle Mike's IWB (with the velcro thumbreak) clipped to my waist band. This cheap holster is sweat resistant and stays perfectly in place and does not irritate me. Its a cheap and effective solution as long as you are willing to were a T-shirt untucked.

I jog with a Kel-Tec in my SmartCarry with no problem! = very accessible under jogging shorts or pants
I have done this and can concur. Another advantage is it gives you a nice place to hold you CHL and house key if needed.

Though I have moved to the UM holster method for comfort and ease.

I screwed up earlier. This is the one I ordered.

Carried the Para P14-45 fully loaded. No problems.
Next up: Glock 21C with full load.
I have a girth  and the large is a little big :uhoh:
I wonder just how BIG these Secret Service guys are?
So order the medium. If you are little, you are probably SOL :neener:

You guys that are currently running with pistols. Do you have no problems with corrosion? Do ya just wipe it down and put it up? I sweat buckets when I run. My clothes are wringing wet when I finnish in the summer and the pistol would have been sweated on for an hour. I would figure it would get all down in the slide and such. I really sweat. Anyhow I don't have time to run and clean my gun in the morning. Just wondering how you guys handle it.

Mike

Well, I don't, or didn't, run with a gun prior to getting the rig above.

The rig will insulate the gun from buckets of sweat. Moreover, I will be carrying stainless or tennifer finish. I do not expect sweat to get to the inner workings. If they do, just a strip and oil should do it.

Yeah, glock tennifer would be the way to go. I bet if you wore a vest underneath the rig it would fit just right.

Mike

It pretty much is almost a vest. That whole picture is the rig. Notice that the gun is on the exterior panel which is attached by velcro to the inner panel. Not even I sweat enough to get the gun wet ;)

If I could communicate I would be dangerous! What I really meant to say is if you put a ballistic vest on underneath it would probably fit more snugly. I figure they made them oversize to fit over a vest.

Mosin-Nagant M44. You get extra exercise from lugging around the rifle while running. There is a handy bayonet for those pesky Rottweilers and a sling to put the gun over your shoulders when needed. You can always say you are training for a bit part in "Enemy at the Gates Part II, March to Berlin".

Yikes...that setup is expensive. Looks like a great setup but I just can't imagine that someone couldn't make an equal quality setup for a much cheaper price.

Jeff,

Thanks for the link. I was disappointed though to find that it cannot be concealed by a thong bikini. :(

That seems like a great option although it's not as nice as the shooting systems rig above (although it better NOT be as nice since it's 100 bucks less!). I like the shooting systems setup with the over-the-gut gun storage and the retention strap. I know you tested it jogging but does it shift at all with vigorous activity? What actually holds the gun in the holster? Does the actual holster part have some kind of elasticity? It just doesn't seem like it would be real secure jogging but if you say it is I believe you. One other factor is that it looks like it wouldn't have any kind of sweat repellent. Does it or will sweat go straight through to the gun? That's a pretty high sweat area of the body...at least for me it is.

The retention area for the gun is like a wet suit, real stetchy and womb-like.

With the straps the 1911 did fine. While practicing the 1911 fell out, then I figured out the retention straps. Glock fits better, probably because it is a monolithic block rather then a high-speed, low-drag 1911. I believe the Glock would stay without the straps, but I am not going to try it.

Can't even tell small guns are even there. :uhoh:

The "back-brace" stype does limit motion. Stretch and then tighten the belt.

im glad whoever started this thread did so because i think this is a really good question
i think my Mak is too heavy to carry jogging, and besides i run right after school and cant have protection there, but im still curious about the best way to carry a gun jogging
too bad i dont have a 3AT :)

BowStreetRunner,

I agree. I've seen this question posed several times on other boards and I think this one too. However this particular thread has contained far more helpful and varied suggestions than any other I've seen. Valuable resource for joggers!

I used to carry either a J-frame in a Fist #1 kydex on a nylon "riggers" belt under my shorts/pants or a Seecamp in a first aid pouch hooked on my waistband. The first aid pouch looks harmless and works well but I'm less confident of the .32 ACP's effectiveness against critters.

Even with the kydex, I still got some spots on an aluminum alloy frame while running in summer Florida so now I carry a Glock 19 or something in stainless steel then wipe off immediately after running.

Again my usual carry is in kydex under my shorts on a riggers belt. I definitely don't wear anything that either collects sweat or doesn't hold the weapon securely. That rules out SmartCarry.

Regardless, I carry pepper spray and kubaton in left hand for immediate action. I run over suburbia, farmland, and woods and figure my most probable adversary will have four legs and be moving fast.
