I have a Browning A500 12 gauge that I purchased new in 1986 when they first debuted. What has truly works for me is that the gun shoots high - apparently very high. I recently confirmed this by shooting 50 rounds of trap at 16 yards with it. If I could see the target well above the front bead, it was dusted.

I do not know the percentages with that gun but suspect they are much like the 70/30 of a trap over/under. I am now getting ready to purchase an O/U and would like to have its POI similar to my A500, for obvious reasons. Am I on the right track? I am leaning heavily toward a Browning Citori CXT with 30 inch barrels, which will be similar in length and weight. Your thoughts?

If you want a POI like that of a trap gun, then you have 2 choices: Buy a trap gun or a semi with shims so you can adjust it to shoot high. If you are seeing a lot of rib with your A5, that means it really doesn't fit well, resulting in its shooting high. Most semis normally shoot a flat 50/50 POI pattern.

George P nailed it.

The A500 does shoot high, even though I do not see much rib. I found some articles on this where owners bagged the gun and carefully shot different loads, then found they shoot high. Now that I understand a little more about trap guns, it appears that Browning originally built the A500 to shoot like a trap gun. It seems odd that they did, but it is the way they are. I actually like my A500 very much and have killed my share of birds with it under varying conditions. So, maybe a trap gun will truly work for me in that it will be much the same as my old A500. Thanks.
