We had one of these threads going a while back but I couldn’t find it.

I went to the indoor range and took a shooting selfie by setting the phone on the deck and making a video. Here is a cool shot from a Model 66-1 shooting 158 gr Extreme plated hollowpoints over 6.5 gr Unique.

Post them if you have them!

I remember shooting my GP100 at the range once and a guy commented on the blast and flash... of course with my generous Ruger cylinder gap he meant the gap, not the muzzle. I prefer my flash at the muzzle but c'est la vie :)

Me, too. I think this frame is at the exact instant the bullet is still in the barrel because there is the merest hint of flash starting at the muzzle from a bit of blow-by.

This 66-1 has a .007 gap, so it’s not snug but it’s not super-wide either. I’d prefer a .004-.005 gap myself, but I’m not complaining.

Thought it was kind of a neat shot showing how much force is blown out around the gap upon firing, so I posted it. :)

It really does show what the pistol puts up with to resist flash-burning.

I guess you could always shim it up if it ever got to really bugging you..... Or those beside you.

Todd.

I get shimming it to open the B/C gap, it would fit between the cylinder and the crane...where would the shim go to tighten it?

Oops... I was thinking of end shake as far as the shims rather than closing the gap. Some pistols, you can shim the crane forward - not sure on yours.

I'm sending one of my Mode 29s back to S&W Performance Center for their best deal going of the "Outdoor Package" and will look forward to hearing what they expect for correct gap before it is sent in. Only $200. Keeps me from doing it.

That first one looks like you reloaded it with about 90% H-110 and 10% magnesium powder! :what:

I recall a friend of mine claiming he started a small grass fire shooting a newly-released S&W 500 Mag prone off of a low rest (I wasn't there, I have no idea if it happened) I guess if it did, the muzzle flame must've looked like that.

Very impressive indeed!

Stay safe.
