Pointed Bullets in 30-30 Winchester

I used to load some for a 14” super 14 Contender and occasionally shot some out of my Marlin 30AS. I loaded 125 TNT and 125 Ballistic Tips with great results using AA2460 back then. Lots of fun and very accurate while extending the range a little. 150 or bigger you had to pop the extractor on the rifle to get the round out of the chamber.
I have a Savage 340 in .30-30 and it won't feed long-nose bullets, either. The magazine is dimensionally proportional to a lever-action rifle's lifter. However, it will extract and eject a .30-30 loaded with a Sierra 168gr. BTHP when loaded by hand. Upside to that configuration is, in the Savage, it's more accurate than I am out to 200 yards. Downside is, so is a 150gr. Hot-Cor for half the cost and it also works in my Marlin 336C. I experimented with long-range bullets in the 10" T/C barrel and the Savage - and an NEF Handi-Rifle I no longer have - and came to the conclusion that a longer-range, Spitzer-type bullet .30-30 is called the .30 US (a.k.a. .30-40Krag). ;)
